| Practical cooking class at Cua Lo Tourism and Trade Vocational College. |
Cua Lo is entering its tourist season, so it goes without saying how much this atmosphere impacts the school's activities, especially since in just a few days the school will be handing over students to employers. With over 400 students selected in this batch, they will have the opportunity to intern and work at high-end restaurants, hotels, and reputable travel companies. Furthermore, this "experience" will also provide students with the chance to earn extra income, with an average salary of 3.5 to 4 million VND per month.
In addition, over 200 other outstanding students are beginning the application process and procedures to participate in internships in Singapore under a program signed between the school and universities and tourism companies in that country. This is a rare opportunity at other vocational schools, but it is an annual program that has been maintained for many years at the school. Through this, students can improve their English skills and professional expertise in a country with one of the most developed tourism industries in Asia; creating job opportunities for students with an average income of 850 USD - 1,000 USD per month. After the internship, many final-year students with good English skills have been offered long-term contracts and employment. According to Dr. Dau Chinh Nghia, Vice Principal of the school: Although there is a high demand for labor in the food processing, culinary arts, hotel and restaurant management, tourism, reception, and accounting sectors for positions such as bar staff, receptionists, cashiers, and cooks in hotels and restaurants, especially during the tourist season, the school is currently only able to meet about 40% of the recruitment needs.
Creating job opportunities for students after graduation is one of the main goals of the training program at Nghe An Tourism and Trade Vocational College. Therefore, whether it's a college-level, intermediate-level, or basic vocational training program, the school dedicates 70% of class time to practical training. Practical lessons are also emphasized through on-site work at various establishments. For students in the Culinary Arts and Hotel and Tourism Management departments, the internship period is extended to four months instead of the usual one. Even teachers in specialized fields will perform tasks related to their teaching during the students' internships. The purpose is for teachers to gain experience, acquire advanced techniques, and apply them to their teaching. Annually, the school also invites leading experts, scientists, and managers to conduct training and professional development courses to update the school's teachers with in-depth knowledge... As a result, out of over 170 current staff and teachers, more than 50% have postgraduate degrees, are experts, artisans, or highly skilled craftsmen, and 100% of teachers meet the standard qualifications in vocational teaching.
As Head of the Culinary Arts Department, Professor Bui Van Duc is proud that for many years, the department has consistently been rated as one of the best-performing departments in the school. It has also trained many chefs and head chefs for large restaurants and hotels both within and outside the province. Most graduates from the department don't have to worry about finding employment after graduation, as many are approached by employers even in their second or third year. Similarly, in the Tourism and Hotel Management Department, in addition to tourism-related professional skills, the department places great emphasis on training students in specialized foreign languages. Therefore, foreign languages occupy a significant portion of the curriculum, and many graduates are proficient in foreign languages and confident in working in any position, both domestically and internationally.
Few schools have a dedicated hotel and restaurant practice center like the College of Tourism and Commerce. Here, students can both learn and practice in a working environment equivalent to a 3-star hotel. The school also has a Job Placement and Student Support Center, which has proactively linked and collaborated with nearly 50 domestic and international businesses. On average, it introduces nearly 1,000 people each year, including over 700 working domestically and nearly 300 working or interning abroad, especially in Singapore, Japan, and South Korea. Over 85% of the school's graduates have found stable employment and income.
Building on the achievements already made, in the coming time the school will continue to cooperate and exchange with universities in Thailand and Singapore in teaching, scientific research and technology transfer. It will also coordinate well with businesses throughout the training process to mobilize artisans, experts, and managers to participate in practical teaching and to link job placement for students after graduation.
