(Baonghean.vn) -To improve the seafaring skills and legal knowledge of fishermen, contribute to increased efficiency in fisheries exploitation, and ensure the safety of people and fishing vessels operating in the waters of Nghe An province, on the mornings of June 6th and 8th, in Son Hai and Quynh Long communes, the Nghe An Fisheries Exploitation and Protection Sub-Department, in coordination with Nha Trang University of Fisheries, organized the opening ceremony of a training course for captains and chief engineers of class 4 for more than 100 fishermen from Quynh Long, Quynh Tho, Son Hai, and An Hoa communes.

During the course, fishermen will be equipped with basic knowledge of captain and chief engineer duties, maritime law; ship maneuvering; life-saving, fire-fighting, damage control, collision response and rescue procedures; meteorological and oceanographic knowledge; and fishing and product protection techniques.

In addition, trainees will be trained in skills and techniques for operating vessels with a power of 400 horsepower or more; techniques for locating fishing grounds; skills in troubleshooting and repairing vessels when they experience problems; and legal regulations to ensure the safety of people and fishing vessels in fishing activities. From there, they will disseminate information and guide fishermen to raise their legal awareness and fully understand their rights and obligations in marine fishing activities in various sea areas, especially in common fishing grounds.

The course lasts 15 days. At the end of the course, the organizers will hold an exam for the trainees. If they pass, they will be awarded a Class 4 fishing vessel captain and chief engineer certificate.
