The most beautiful irrigation dam in Nghe An releases water to regenerate the lake bed

(Baonghean.vn) - Pha Lai Dam is the largest irrigation project in Mon Son commune, Con Cuong district, started in early 2000 and completed in May 2002.

Pha Lai Dam has recently become an eco-tourism destination in the Mon Son region.

The construction project aims to serve the cultivation, daily life of the people and stabilize the local ecology. On average, once a year, Mon Son commune coordinates with Tay Nam Irrigation Company to repair and upgrade the dam, discharge dredged water, both for irrigation and to restore the environmental landscape for tourism. The discharge period is from May 28 to June 4, 2016.

In the mornings or afternoons, Mon Son people still catch shrimp and fish in the Giang River at the foot of Pha Lai dam to improve their meals.

On summer days, Thai people take advantage of going to the river to catch shrimp and fish.

The dam is 6 - 8 meters high, with a large amount of water, annually leading water to the irrigation canals to serve irrigation in the fields. Therefore, Muong Qua field in Mon Son is always the "rice granary" with quite high productivity of Con Cuong district. The rice here is quite delicious, so when coming to Con Cuong, there is a song "Muong Qua rice, Giang river fish".

Thanks to Pha Lai dam, rice productivity in Mon Son commune reaches 60 - 65 tons/ha.

Pha Lai Dam - Thai word: "Pha" means sky, "Lai" is flower. Pha Lai means "flower of the sky". Since the Pha Lai Dam was built, the Giang River seems to have been "tamed". From Pha Lai Dam, tourists can join a boat tour with the Dan Lai ethnic people in Co Phat and Bung villages in the Vietnam - Laos border area. Giang River also provides the local people with special native aquatic species such as: mackerel, bream, giant freshwater loach, catfish, eel...

These days, services on Pha Lai dam are temporarily suspended for dredging and cleaning the riverbed.

Since the Pha Lai dam was completed, local people have taken advantage of the favorable natural conditions. Some people (including local people and people from other places) have come here to build floating restaurants on the water to serve tourists with natural culinary specialties as well as the need to visit the landscapes of the Southwest of Nghe An.
