However, due to health reasons, he resigned from the newspaper's management position at the age of 43. In 1904, he wrote a will leaving $2 million to Columbia University to be used for the establishment of a journalism school and journalism awards. After his death, he was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, New York.
