In a fit of rage, Bui Van Ninh murdered his son, who had a congenital neurological disability.
Having had a few drinks, Ninh went to bed and woke up around 12:30 AM. At this time, the defendant felt angry because his wife had scolded him earlier for losing the shovel.
When Ninh went out into the yard, she saw her son, Bui Van Nga (born in 1994), who has a congenital neurological disability, sitting by the well.
Already seething with anger, Ninh saw that his disabled son had reached adulthood but couldn't help the family with anything or even take care of himself, so he conceived the idea of killing him.
The cruel father went to the pile of firewood near the kitchen, grabbed a wooden stick, and repeatedly struck Nga on the head and neck three or four times, causing her to bleed profusely.
After being beaten by her father, Nga crawled into the house, trying to cry out but her voice was indistinct. Ninh threw down the stick, picked up a brick, and hit his daughter on the head. At this point, Nga managed to crawl inside the house.
Witnessing the horrific scene, Ninh's youngest daughter shouted for help from the neighbors. After being taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, Nga passed away on July 9, 2019. The forensic examination concluded that the victim died from a traumatic brain injury.
After committing the crime, Ninh went to the Kim Boi District Police Station to surrender.
Facing trial for "murder," Ninh admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment. Given the opportunity to speak his final words, the guilty father expressed remorse and requested the court to grant him the lowest possible sentence.
The victim's family representative submitted a petition requesting a reduced sentence for the defendant and asking that Ninh be given the lowest possible sentence so that he could have a chance to rebuild his life.
The verdict stated that the defendant's actions were exceptionally serious. The defendant should have loved Nga because the victim was born with a disability, but instead, he killed his own child, causing public disorder, drawing public condemnation, and violating moral principles...
The court deemed it necessary to impose a severe punishment commensurate with the nature and consequences of the defendant's actions, and therefore sentenced Ninh to life imprisonment for the crime of "murder".
