Liver cancer has the following signs:
- Papilloma, pain or swelling: When papilloma is detected, pain or swelling is felt on the right side of the abdominal cavity below the ribs, the liver may be seriously damaged. Malignant tumors forming in the liver cannot be ruled out.
- Jaundice: Jaundice is a clinical manifestation of impaired liver function. Impaired liver function causes bilirubin to accumulate in the body. Jaundice is one of the first signs of liver cancer.
- Bruising or bleeding: When liver function is impaired, it has difficulty producing proteins needed to help blood clot. This leads to increased bruising or bleeding throughout the body.
- Poor digestion and dark urine: Dark urine and loose stools are also signs of bilirubin accumulation due to decreased liver function.
Risk of liver cancer
- Hepatitis A, B or C infection: damages liver cells, leading to impaired liver function and cirrhosis.
- Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD): Fat buildup in the liver is common in people who are overweight or obese.
- Cirrhosis: due to a number of factors including alcoholism, hepatitis, NAFLD.
- Hemochromatosis: Excess iron in the body, leading to damage to many organs, especially the liver and spleen.
- Obesity: Fat accumulation in the liver impairs liver function. It leads to NAFLD, eventually cirrhosis, and even liver cancer.
