Signs of bladder cancer
Symptoms of the disease are nonspecific and easily overlooked. Be alert for urinary disorders, hematuria, frequent urination, painful urination, urinary tract infections...
According to statistics from the Global Cancer Organization GLOBOCAN 2018, each year Vietnam has about 1,502 new cases and 883 deaths from bladder cancer.
Associate Professor Nguyen Phuc Cam Hoang, Deputy Director of Binh Dan Hospital, said that bladder cancer is among the most common cancers. Early detection and treatment of bladder tumors helps increase survival rates and improve quality of life after treatment.
Last year, Binh Dan Hospital treated 1,873 cases of bladder cancer and performed surgery on 1,812 patients. Many cases of bladder tumors were in the advanced stage, the tumor invaded the muscle, forcing the patient to accept the removal of the entire bladder and adnexa.
The age at which bladder cancer is usually detected is 50-60. Recently, the hospital has recorded many cases of bladder cancer in people in their early 30s, and in some cases in their 20s.
Symptoms of the disease are nonspecific and therefore easily overlooked. Some symptoms that suggest the disease are urinary disorders, hematuria, frequent urination, painful urination, urinary tract infections... Bladder tumors are easily confused with other non-malignant diseases of the bladder and urinary tract in general such as urinary tract infections, urinary tract stones...

According to Associate Professor Hoang, to avoid missing the disease and treat it early, patients with symptoms need to go to medical facilities with urology departments for examination and treatment.
Some risk factors for the disease are smoking, working in an environment with frequent exposure to chemicals, especially dyes, recurring urinary tract infections, and inadequate treatment of urinary tract stones...
Recently, the application of NBI short-wave ureteroscopy has helped doctors detect flat bladder cancer early, increasing the rate of early stage disease detection and reducing the rate of tumor remnants.
New techniques also allow for complete removal of localized tumors in the bladder through ureteroscopy, minimally invasive, limiting blood loss and damage to healthy tissue, helping to completely treat tumors at an early stage.
Patients avoid severe physical and psychological damage caused by tumor progression and muscle invasion such as when performing surgery to remove the entire bladder and surrounding organs such as the prostate gland, part of the urethra in men, and the entire uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes and part of the vagina in women.
