(Baonghean.vn) - Truong Thi Hien (class 12C2 - Ethnic Minority Boarding High School No. 2) is one of the 27 luckiest candidates in the country to be admitted to the Public Relations major (University of Social Sciences and Humanities). This is also the major with the highest standard score this year with 29.95 points. However, the path to university for this Turkish female student has encountered many difficulties and hardships.

Overcoming difficulties

Although the admission score has just been announced by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hien is not too surprised with her admission result. Because before that, after knowing her high school graduation exam score with Literature 9.25 points, History 9.5 points and Geography 8.75 points, plus priority points, Hien's total score is 30.25 points.

With this score, Hien boldly registered for Public Relations (first choice) and Literature Pedagogy - Hanoi National University of Education 1 (second choice).

This female student also shared: I read very carefully before registering my wishes and I really like Public Relations because I can develop my abilities and have many job opportunities in the future.

Hien's family lives in Dong Nam hamlet, Ha Son commune, Quy Hop district and has been a poor household in the hamlet for many years. Hien is the eldest sister and the best student, so after finishing 9th grade, she passed the entrance exam to the provincial Ethnic Minority Boarding School. Due to her special circumstances, teacher Ho Thi Hoi, who was Hien's homeroom teacher for 3 years, always paid attention to her. She still remembers that when Hien first entered 10th grade, due to family circumstances, there was a time when she thought she would have to drop out of school. After that, with the encouragement of her teachers, she was determined to study hard and achieved quite high results in the high school graduation exam.

Talking about Hien's 3 years studying away from home, although there were difficulties, for her, these were memorable years because Hien was always encouraged by teachers and friends. That concern was also the motivation for her to try hard, because she knew that "only studying is the only way for poor students to overcome their circumstances and have a bright future".

The hardships of university

With a desire to go to university, right after knowing her high school graduation exam results, and being introduced by a friend in the neighborhood, Hien went to Bac Ninh and applied for a job as a worker at an electronic components assembly factory. After nearly a month of working, Hien said, "The work is not tiring, I can keep up with my seniors at the company." The money she saved, Hien kept to cover expenses after entering university.

During her days working in the industrial park, Hien also determined that her choice to go to university was the right one, more than ever. The only thing is that currently, Hien's family has 5 people, both parents are farmers, and her mother has a terminal illness (epilepsy) so every month she has to go to the hospital to get medicine. Meanwhile, Hien's two younger siblings, the youngest is in 8th grade, the second one finished 9th grade and had to drop out of school to go to Vinh to learn a trade.

Because of her family’s circumstances, instead of being happy since the university entrance exam results were announced, Hien’s family has been worried. Not knowing where to get the money to send their child to university, the family even advised Hien to drop out of school and go to work.

Speaking more about her current situation, Hien could not help but feel regretful: I have registered and confirmed that I will enroll, but I do not know if I can go. Before enrolling in the program, I did some research and learned that students from poor households can have their tuition fees waived. However, there are still many other expenses and I am really worried.

Faced with the worry of not being able to go to university, Hien could only share with her homeroom teacher. In the past few days, feeling sorry for her diligent and hardworking student, teacher Ho Thi Hoi also "couldn't sit still" and encouraged Hien to go to school: "If you lack money, I will lend you money, and when you go to work, you will pay it back."

Teacher Ho Thi Hoi also added: To get to where she is today, Hien has made a lot of effort and I want her to have the opportunity to continue her journey. Maybe, if she goes to work, she will be able to calculate the distance ahead, but the road ahead is still very long and if she goes to university, I believe Hien will be successful and she will not let down her parents and teachers.

Along with Truong Thi Hien, in class 12C2 - Ethnic Minority Boarding High School No. 2, there are 2 other students who passed the Oriental Studies and Public Administration class - the major with the highest standard score in the country with 29.95 points.

In addition, among the 31 students in the class, 5 students passed the entrance exams to the People's Security Academy, the People's Police Academy, the Border Guard Academy and the Political Officer School.

The class has 4 students admitted to Hanoi National University of Education, 8 students admitted to the Faculty of Primary Education - Vinh University, 4 students admitted to Hanoi Law University. In addition, there are students admitted to Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, National Economics University, University of Economics and Finance and Academy of Journalism and Communication.
