At the beginning of the year, people everywhere are starting to prepare for the spring crop.
- For the 2013 spring crop, Tan Ky district will plant 3,600 hectares of rice. To ensure the entire area is covered and the crop is successful, the Tan Ky District People's Committee has directed relevant agencies to provide farmers with sufficient seeds, fertilizers, and plastic sheeting, with a focus on hybrid rice varieties (70-75%) and providing seed treatment chemicals before sowing seedlings. Local authorities throughout the district have instructed farmers to prepare the land for sowing seedlings, actively participate in irrigation work, dredge canals, use water efficiently, and prepare various types of pumps to ensure a reliable water supply for crop growth, striving to achieve a yield of 60 quintals/hectare.

According to the 2013 spring planting plan, Quynh Luu district will plant a total area of 16,000 hectares, including 8,850 hectares of rice. The rice varieties include: Khai Phong 1, Nhi Uu 986, B-TE1, BC15, Thai Xuyen 111, GS9… To date, the district has imported 297 tons of rice seeds and has supplied 250 tons to the communes. Farmers have started preparing the land and sown nearly 2 hectares of spring seedlings, equivalent to about 85 hectares of transplanted rice. Given the cold weather, the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued a directive to all localities and cooperatives to cover 100% of the sown seedlings with plastic sheeting to help the seedlings develop well and ensure sufficient area for transplanting in the spring crop. The District People's Committee is supporting farmers with 10% of the cost of plastic sheeting and 40% of the cost of insecticide to prevent diseases in the seedlings.

- To ensure timely production for the 2013 spring crop, from the very first days of the new year, farmers in Do Luong have focused on harvesting the winter corn crop and mobilizing manpower, draft animals, and hundreds of plows to prepare the land, fertilize, and spread lime powder for sowing seedlings and preparing for transplanting.
In the spring of 2013, Do Luong district planted 7,700 hectares of rice, mainly hybrid and high-quality rice varieties. To ensure smooth and timely planting for farmers, the District People's Committee directed the Department of Agriculture, the Agricultural Extension Station, the Plant Protection Station, and agricultural service cooperatives to prepare sufficient seeds, pesticides, and planting procedures to guide farmers.
According to the plan, from January 2nd to February 2nd, farmers will sow rice seedlings, and from February 15th onwards, they will transplant the spring rice crop.

- During the 2012 winter crop season, Nam Xuan commune (Nam Dan district) proactively converted some areas of low-yield corn cultivation to kohlrabi cultivation. Over 17 hectares of kohlrabi have been planted, and thanks to proper care, investment in cultivation techniques, and timely pest and disease control, the entire area is developing well and yielding high productivity. With current selling prices at the field ranging from 5,000 to 7,000 VND per kilogram, each hectare brings farmers over 100 million VND, many times higher than other crops on the same area. These days, farmers are focusing on harvesting to free up land for timely spring planting.
