(Baonghean.vn) - After all the achievements during his term as prime minister, British Prime Minister David Cameron's reputation and historical position seem to be tied to his failure in the Brexit gamble that took place in June 2016.

Recently, Leeds University and market research company Woodnewton Associates conducted a survey of 82 professors specializing in British history and politics, asking them to rate and evaluate 13 former British prime ministers since World War II.

Mr Cameron is rated with a fairly low approval rating because of incidents related to “Britain's foreign policy and position on the international stage” during his time in power.

90% of scholars believe that Mr. Cameron's Brexit gamble is the biggest failure in the history of British prime ministers, "since Prime Minister Lord North lost America" and was forced to resign in 1782.

According to the survey results published on October 13, with 67 points, Mr. Cameron became the third worst prime minister, only behind Alec Douglas-Home, Conservative Prime Minister from 1963 - 1964 and Anthony Eden, another Conservative Party leader from 1955 - 1957.

However, according to Professor Kevin Theakston of Leeds University: “Depending on how Brexit goes, historians and political scientists may have a different view of Mr Cameron's tenure and his place in the rankings of prime ministers.”

According to the assessment, the list of 5 Prime Ministers who are considered to have the most successful terms:

1.Clement Atlee, Labor Party, term 1945 - 1951

2.Margaret Thatcher, Conservative Party, term 1979 - 1990

3.Tony Blair, Labor Party, term 1997 - 2007

4.Harold Macmillan, Conservative Party, term 1957 - 1963

5.Harold Wilson, Labor Party, term 1964 - 1970 and 1974 - 1976
