David Moyes in trouble for threatening to slap female reporter

April 4, 2017 10:43

Manager David Moyes recently insulted a female BBC reporter in a quick interview after Sunderland's match against Burnley.

In the interview, reporter Vicki Spark asked Moyes if he felt pressured when the Sunderland owner attended a match in March, to which Moyes replied: "Not at all."

Moyes then told Spark: "That question was a bit naughty and you should watch out. Just because you're a girl doesn't mean you won't get slapped. Be careful next time."

David Moyes could be fined for his comments to a female reporter at Spark.

The former Man Utd manager has apologised for his lack of restraint in his comments. But the Football Association (FA) still requires Moyes to explain the incident in order to decide on punishment, if any.

"I sincerely apologise for what I said," Moyes apologised. "I was not like the person I am and I accept it was a mistake. I have apologised to this reporter and hope this matter can be resolved."

Moyes' Sunderland are currently bottom of the Premier League, eight points from safety, with just nine games remaining. The Black Cats face Leicester in midweek.
