Rubber band 'eats' into little girl's skin because of wearing it for a long time
The four-year-old girl had to have surgery to remove a rubber band that had been wrapped around her arm in a blistering circle.

Le Le, from Linquan County, Anhui Province, was taken to the doctor by her grandparents earlier this year after a circular blister appeared on her right arm. However, doctors were unable to explain the condition and diagnosed her with an infection or allergy, according toMetro.
Recently, Le Le's parents decided to take their daughter to the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine in Hangzhou City after seeing that her hand was getting worse. Here, Dr. Ye Wensong determined that a rubber band worn for a long time was most likely the cause of the swelling on the child's hand.
Le Le's parents did not believe Dr. Ye's hypothesis but agreed to let their child stay in the hospital for further examination and treatment.
An ultrasound scan of Le Le's right arm later revealed a foreign object under her skin. After surgery, doctors removed a rubber band from her arm. Le Le is currently recovering in the hospital.

Dr. Ye said that in his 20 years of practice, he had only encountered a similar situation to Le Le's once and that the girl's grandparents apparently did not notice when their granddaughter picked up and put the rubber band on her hand.
"Some adults like to tie thin red strings around the necks, wrists or toes of young children for good luck, but this is potentially dangerous. The elastic bands can easily get into the child's skin. Some children are too young to tell, so the adults in the house often do not pay attention," Mr. Ye added.
