Teach your children how to earn money from a young age.

Most parents, especially in urban areas, have to give their children a regular allowance. However, there are many ways to teach children how to earn money and appreciate its value from a young age.

Many parents don't want to simply give their children pocket money as requested. Instead, they guide their children on how to earn money for themselves to buy snacks, clothes, etc. Teaching children to do chores for pay helps them learn to appreciate money from an early age. Spending money they've earned themselves helps children build confidence and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Here are five ways to help your child learn to earn money at an early age:

1. Babysitting, childcare

According to experienced caregivers, children around 11 years old and up can begin babysitting. Some others have to wait until their teens before they are capable of doing this job.

First, teach your child the necessary skills for caring for a young child, including playing with the baby, cleaning, and some basic first aid. In some places, children not only babysit to earn money from their parents, but may also babysit for other families in the area. This is a way for your child to earn money while developing their caregiving skills.

2. Gardening

Gardening tasks like mowing the lawn and trimming trees are age-appropriate for young children. Many parents pay their children a small amount of money after they clean up the garden. If neighbors or relatives need help, you can also let your children work for others to learn how to earn extra income. Parents can help children decide how much they should earn, whether by the hour or by the amount of work completed.

3. Pet care, taking pets for walks.

Children always love animals and enjoy playing with them. However, caring for dogs and cats, and walking them, requires some additional skills. Children need to know how to feed pets and clean up after them. For responsible and caring children, this is a suitable job to earn some extra money.

4. Household chores

Many mothers pay their children for completing small chores, such as cleaning the house, dusting, organizing the closet, or wiping windows. The amount for each task can be small, commensurate with the effort the child puts in. The more they do, the more pocket money they earn.

5. Give allowance based on savings.

Some parents disagree with the method of exchanging chores for pocket money. Instead, they provide a regular weekly or monthly allowance for their children. However, some still want to teach their children about earning money by making a deal that "you must be well-behaved and help with household chores." Others give their children pocket money from the monthly interest earned on their savings. This method encourages children to save money from birthday gifts and other donations.
