(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of May 25th, the Provincial People's Committee held a working session with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Nam Irrigation Company Limited regarding the progress of the Nam Dan Sluice Gate project and the canal system. The Nam Dan Canal upgrade and expansion project commenced in April 2010 with a total investment of over 536.7 billion VND. According to the design, upon completion, the project will supply water for production and daily life to the districts of Nam Dan, Hung Nguyen, Nghi Loc, Cua Lo town, and Vinh city. To date, the construction unit has achieved 98.42% of the allocated capital, including 97% completion of the culvert and lock construction package, the completion of bridge girders for the bridge over the canal on National Highway 46, and 85.81% completion of the construction road and downstream canal construction package... However, during implementation, due to the weak capacity of some contractors and numerous revisions to the project documents, as well as construction on complex geological conditions, the important construction package of the bridge over the canal on National Highway 46 and the construction road and downstream canal has fallen behind schedule, affecting the project (expected completion date: July 30, 2015).

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Dinh Viet Hong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, requested that in the coming period, focus should be placed on accelerating the project's progress to ensure its timely completion and early effectiveness. To achieve this, relevant levels and sectors need to coordinate and implement the project synchronously and decisively, prioritizing land clearance; completing the project documentation and adjusting the total investment; focusing on the rapid construction of packages 2 and 3 to meet the schedule and complete them before the rainy season; and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development must promptly report on the project's progress, urge construction units to expedite implementation, and address any difficulties and obstacles encountered during the project.
