Teach children about car blind spots to avoid unfortunate accidents
Recently, a father drove a truck out of his yard and accidentally ran over and killed his 2-year-old daughter, causing great sadness in society. To avoid unfortunate accidents involving cars, equip your family and children with the following knowledge.
Tragic accidents of children due to obstructed view of cars
In 2016, there were a number of rare accidents involving children and cars across the country. Among them, there were tragic incidents where the driver was a family member. One of the common causes is that the driver did not see the child when reversing.

There have been many unfortunate cases of children dying due to blind spots in cars around the world. In Watton (Norfolk, England) on June 7, 2015, a mother accidentally ran over and killed her 3-year-old son while backing into the garage.
Another incident happened in Nanning, China, where a four-year-old boy miraculously escaped death. An investigator said: “The driver said he did not know that his car had run over the boy. The boy was standing in a blind spot, making it impossible for the driver to see.”
Car blind spots - not everyone knows
DBlind spots (or more precisely, blind areas) are areas outside the vehicle that are obscured and not within the driver's field of vision. That is, the driver cannot observe the blind spots through the rearview mirrors or directly. Blind spot locations include: blind spots caused by rearview mirrors, blind spots in front of the vehicle, and blind spots behind the vehicle.
Blind spots often prevent drivers from seeing people or objects moving in those areas, especially when drivers change lanes, turn at intersections, or park.

The role of adults in limiting accidents for children related to blind spots
Parents not only need to teach their children how to avoid blind spots, but they and other drivers should also pay attention to the following points:
- Before getting in, starting and moving the car, walk around and behind the car to check. Look around when backing up to make sure no one is around the car.
- Make sure you know where your children are or have them move to a location where you can clearly see them before you move the car. Also make sure there is an adult supervising the children before you move the car.

- It is advisable to purchase and install safety equipment in the vehicle, such as collision sound detectors, rearview cameras, rearview mirrors and various types of reversing detection devices.
- Measure the blind spot behind your family car. A 5-foot-tall driver in a pickup truck may have a blind spot about 6 feet wide and 50 feet long behind his vehicle. Keep in mind that driving on steep grades and driving SUVs, large trucks, minivans, and pickups makes it even harder to see behind your vehicle.
- Always set the emergency brake before leaving the vehicle.
- Never leave children alone anywhere in or around a vehicle. Accidents happen very suddenly, just one minute can lead to tragedy.
Always remember that preventive measures can make an incredible difference as they can save many children's lives.
