When mentioning Duong Hong Son, experts and football fans in the country cannot forget the AFF Cup 2008, the tournament in which the Vietnamese team won the championship for the first time in the regional arena. The goalkeeper from Nghe An was one of the most outstanding players of the Vietnamese team in the tournament that took place 11 years ago.

At the club level, Duong Hong Son also achieved success in the shirt of Hanoi T&T - now Hanoi FC. Before deciding to retire from his "shorts and jersey" career in 2016, the former goalkeeper born in 1982 had won the championship of V.League 2010, V.League 2013 and the Vietnam Super Cup 2010 with the capital team.

Marks as a coach

When he first retired, Duong Hong Son was the goalkeeper coach of the Hanoi U19 team. At the beginning of last season, the former SLNA goalkeeper was assigned by the Hanoi Club Board of Directors to take on the role of captain of the Hanoi Youth team, participating in the 2018 National Third Division. Under the direction of Duong Hong Son, the Hanoi Youth team with the core of the Hanoi U19 team successfully won the promotion ticket.

At the 2019 National Second Division Tournament that just ended on August 16, the Hanoi Youth team overcame a series of formidable opponents to reach the final match. Despite facing Ba Ria - Vung Tau, a team with many quality players, typically former striker of the Vietnam National Team - Nguyen Hai Anh, the Hanoi Youth team still played on par and only lost with a narrow score (0 - 1).

Witnessing the recent matches of Quan Van Chuan and his teammates, everyone can recognize the personal mark of "architect" Duong Hong Son in the playing style of the purple team (the traditional shirt color of Hanoi FC). In addition to the beautiful passing phases that are the trademark of Hanoi FC, the Hanoi Youth team also showed solidity in defense.

In the last two matches of the 2019 National Second Division against Gia Dinh and Ba Ria – Vung Tau, the team from the capital only conceded one goal, which was a header from striker Nguyen Hai Anh. Originally a goalkeeper, Duong Hong Son knows what to do to build a solid defense.

That does not mean that the Hanoi Youth team is not strong in attack. According to statistics, Duong Hong Son's students have the most goals in the 2019 National Second Division (30 goals), 3 more than the second-placed team, Ba Ria - Vung Tau (Ba Ria - Vung Tau has 27 goals). Clearly, Duong Hong Son's mark on the Hanoi Youth team's playing style is not small.

Of course, that is not enough for Duong Hong Son to "sit at the same table" with Nguyen Duc Thang (former Thanh Hoa coach), Tran Minh Chien (Ba Ria - Vung Tau coach) or Graechen (HAGL) - the strong candidates for the captain position of U18 Vietnam.
