To make Dien Thanh an attractive destination

June 8, 2011 10:05

Having been in operation for over 10 years, Dien Thanh beach resort (Dien Chau district) is considered an attractive tourist destination in the district in particular and Nghe An province in general. Preserving and maintaining a green, clean, and beautiful environment for the beach is one of the key tasks in building Dien Thanh beach into a friendly and safe destination for tourists.

Mr. Phan Dinh Trung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Thanh commune, said: Initially, Dien Thanh beach was just a pristine beach, with inadequate infrastructure and tourism services. It wasn't until 2000, thanks to the investment policy of the District People's Committee, as well as the attention of various sectors and levels, that Dien Thanh beach was recognized for its potential and began to receive investment for development. In particular, since 2006, the district has planned a seaside tourism village with a total area of over 100 hectares; building entertainment areas, eco-tourism zones, and sports facilities for tennis and other sports...

To date, Dien Thanh has built 25 modern hotels and guesthouses; and 164 restaurants and kiosks selling seafood. The number of tourists visiting Dien Thanh beach is increasing year by year. However, to attract more tourists and develop the area into a type 4 urban area in the coming period, the most important factor is environmental protection: ecological environment and socio-cultural environment. Implementing the "four no's" in tourism (no price gouging, no harassing or pestering tourists, no environmental damage, and no disruption of public order and security); and publicly displaying prices of food and beverages at kiosks and restaurants will help ensure the efficiency of tourism businesses.

Although the coastal tourist area was established in 2000 and its planning was approved by the Provincial People's Committee in 2002 with a total area of 120 hectares, it wasn't until 2005 that the commune planned a waste collection site (over 2000m2) for the tourist area and two neighboring hamlets.

The coastal area has two waste collection points, one in Hamlet 11 (800m²) and the other in Hamlet 1 (650m²). However, the tourist area is located near the mouth of the Lach Van River and the Dien Thanh spillway. Every time water is released for agricultural drainage, waste and water hyacinths are carried by the current to the beach. Furthermore, waste management and treatment have not been timely, making environmental pollution an unavoidable risk. To address this situation, in 2010, the commune developed a project on "Environmental Sanitation Management, Waste Collection and Treatment".

Based on the terrain and population distribution, the commune has planned four additional waste collection sites with areas ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 square meters, expanding the waste collection area in Hamlet 11 from 800 to 1,600 square meters. All waste collection and processing points are enclosed by sturdy walls and ensure convenient access for waste collection vehicles.

In addition, for many years, the People's Committee of Dien Thanh commune has intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage people not to dump waste indiscriminately, and to effectively carry out environmental sanitation work to prevent waste from accumulating on roads, residential areas, and along the beach.

Regulations have been implemented requiring all restaurants and kiosks to be equipped with trash containers; burning waste within the tourist area is prohibited; business owners must strictly adhere to government regulations and conduct regular general cleaning in their business areas... In addition, the commune has established an Environmental Service Cooperative (consisting of 10 people) responsible for collecting waste, ensuring that the tourist area remains green, clean, and beautiful.

To protect the environment and maintain security and order, Dien Thanh tourism has also established two self-governing groups (consisting of 8 people) in charge of the tourist area with the aim of preventing and deterring crime... ensuring good security and safety for tourists. From the beginning of April 2011, in preparation for the new tourist season, the commune organized a conference for restaurants, hotels, and guesthouses to disseminate information on negative issues such as price gouging, disorder, and poor food hygiene and safety...

At the same time, reorganize the order of the wind-swept stalls, build and strengthen the self-governance system in business households, with specific content and regular guidance plans. Focus on detecting and decisively resolving the phenomena of touts, price gouging, and aggressively following customers to sell goods.

A hotline has been established for accommodation establishments, restaurants, kiosks, tourists, and the public to report incidents, enabling timely handling and resolution. In addition, the commune has launched a movement encouraging all citizens to protect national security, detect and report crimes, and combat social vices during the tourist season.

With its stated goals and practical actions, Dien Thanh is constantly striving to remain an ideal and attractive tourist destination; connecting tourism tours within the district and region, and creating a positive impression for visitors from all over to come and visit for relaxation.
