De Gea, Mbappe included in the 2018 World Team of the Year
After a brilliant year of competition, goalkeeper David de Gea and Kylian Mbappe were included for the first time in the typical team voted by the World Football Federation FIFA.
Right-back (Dani Alves, PSG):Not Dani Carvajal, Alves was the name chosen by FIFA in the typical team of 2018. The Brazilian defender played 41 matches for PSG, scoring 5 goals. Before the 2018 World Cup, a serious injury forced Alves to say goodbye to the Brazilian team. |
Center-back (Sergio Ramos, Real Madrid):Ramos deserves to be on this list after an impressive season with Real Madrid. Ramos' solidity helped the "Vultures" win the Champions League for the third time in a row. At the UEFA gala in August 2018, the Real captain was also chosen as "Center Defender of the Year". |
Center-back (Raphael Varane, Real Madrid):Not only did Varane win the 2017/18 Champions League with Real, he also helped the French team return to the top of the world after 20 years. Varane's biggest mark was the header against Uruguay in the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup. In the midst of a stalemate, Varane's goal helped "Les Bleus" find a way to defeat Uruguay and win the right to continue. |
Left-back (Marcelo, Real Madrid):For the third consecutive time, Marcelo has been included in the FIFA Team of the Year. In the 2017/18 season, the Brazilian defender played 44 matches and scored 5 goals for Real. In the left-back position, most opinions agree that Marcelo is the best. |
Defensive midfielder (N'Golo Kante, Chelsea):After a successful year with Chelsea and the French national team, Kante received a well-deserved award from FIFA when he was included in the best squad. The statistics cannot fully describe Kante's role for Chelsea and the French national team as he always works diligently in the midfield, ready to do the simplest tasks. |
Central midfielder (Luka Modric, Real Madrid):Modric was honored by FIFA in the most important category, "The Best 2018", so he is obviously included in this list. A magical year for the Croatian midfielder when he and Real won the Champions League for the third consecutive time, was honored in the "Golden Ball of the 2018 World Cup", "Best Midfielder of the 2017/18 Champions League", "Best Player in Europe 2018" and most especially "The Best 2018". |
Attacking midfielder (Lionel Messi, Barcelona):In a year of explosive attacking stars, Messi still maintained his position in the typical lineup. In the 2017/18 season, the 31-year-old superstar won the "Golden Boot" with 36 goals for Barcelona in La Liga. Unfortunately for Messi, at the 2018 World Cup, the Argentina team stopped at the round of 16. |
Left forward (Eden Hazard, Chelsea):In the 2017/18 season, Hazard played 51 matches in all competitions for "The Blues", scoring 17 goals. At the 2018 World Cup, the Belgian midfielder showed excellent form to contribute greatly to the team's third-place finish. |
Striker (Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid/Juventus):Although he did not win the "The Best 2018" award, Ronaldo's excellent performance over the past year is undeniable. In the Champions League, he scored 15 goals, making the biggest contribution to Real's title. In the 2018 World Cup, the Portuguese team did not play well, but Ronaldo alone scored 4 goals. Ronaldo and Messi were the two players absent from the gala night, so they could not hold the trophy of the best team. |
