To ripen fruits quickly and safely

You buy mangoes, avocados, green bananas, etc., but want them to ripen quickly. You can apply the following tips, which are very effective and safe.

Put it in the rice container.

Burying fruit deep in rice will speed up the ripening process. This method should only be used for completely green fruit, or if you want to eat it the next day.

Use a ripe apple or banana.

When putting fruit in a paper or plastic bag, consider adding a ripe apple or banana. These two fruits release more ethylene than others, which will accelerate the ripening process of the other fruits in the bag.

Mix it with incense sticks.

Bananas ripen faster when placed near incense smoke. This is why fruits offered as incense on altars ripen quickly. Therefore, you can put the bananas in a large plastic bag, then place a cup of sand or wood ash inside. Next, take a few incense sticks, break them in half, and place them in the bowl. Light the incense sticks, letting the scent permeate the bananas. Once the incense has burned out, remove the bowl and tightly tie the bag shut. This will help the bananas ripen quickly (be careful not to let the incense burn the bag).

Put the fruit in a paper bag or plastic bag.

Place the fruit in a paper bag, tying the opening loosely to prevent ethylene gas from escaping, which would cause the fruit to ripen faster. Keep the bag dry, away from sunlight, and at room temperature for optimal results.

As soon as these fruits ripen, transfer them to the refrigerator to prevent them from ripening further.

Use cotton fabric

Spread out a cotton or linen towel, and place soft fruits like peaches, plums, or other fruits with soft skins on it, with the stems facing down, leaving some space between the fruits.

Cover the fruit with another cloth. Wrap it in the cloth like that until the fruit softens or becomes fragrant, then you can eat it.

Soak in water

For persimmons (crispy persimmons), if you want them to ripen quickly, you should soak them in a bowl of plain water.

Note

All these measures can be applied to the following fruits: avocado, papaya, banana, sapodilla, cantaloupe, mango, peach, pear, plum, pineapple, tomato, custard apple.

Other fruits such as apples, blueberries, cherries, grapes, pomegranates, strawberries, raspberries, watermelons, oranges, lemons, tangerines, and grapefruits cannot be ripened at home using these methods. These fruits are best when ripe on the tree, so after buying them, it's best to refrigerate them to avoid wasting them because they ripen too quickly before you can eat them.
