The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has just announced that the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei has also notified relevant domestic agencies and the family, supporting relatives to go to Taiwan (China) to complete related procedures and take care of the victim's funeral.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei to continue citizen protection measures and coordinate with Vietnamese authorities to support legal and material procedures to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of citizen Nguyen Quoc Phi.

The Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei said it is continuing to closely monitor and coordinate with Taiwan (China) in the investigation and handling of the case.

Previously, Taiwanese (Chinese) press reported that Vietnamese citizen Nguyen Quoc Phi was shot dead, causing many Vietnamese workers and labor rights activists to take to the streets to protest and demand a thorough investigation of the incident.

On September 4, protesters gathered in front of the National Police Agency (NPA) to hold banners and chant slogans against what they considered police brutality, and demanded the release of footage and images of the incident that took place on August 31.

Laborer Nguyen Quoc Phi was shot dead by police after he allegedly attacked a group of police officers who were trying to stop him from stealing property and causing damage.

According to the NPA, Phi fiercely resisted arrest by two police officers, surnamed Chen and Lee. The 27-year-old worker hit Lee in the face and broke his baton. The police then used tear gas, but Phi allegedly continued to resist by throwing rocks at the police.

When Mr. Phi tried to get into the police patrol car, Officer Lee shot Mr. Phi nine times. Local police said they transported Mr. Phi to the hospital, but he died.

The incident raised many questions about whether police officer Chen needed to shoot Mr. Phi nine times.
