National high school exam has questions related to experiments and practice
"In the recent reference test, we received feedback from some principals saying that it was a bit difficult. However, we determined that it was difficult in terms of Physics and Chemistry, not difficult in terms of calculation. In particular, there were questions that determined experiments and practices to gradually follow the new textbook program."
Dr. Sai Cong Hong - Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training informed at the press meeting, discussing the 2018 national high school exam.
Only publish reference exam
According to Dr. Sai Cong Hong, in 2017, the Ministry of Education and Training had 3 exam questions before the exam took place. However, this year, the Ministry of Education and Training only announced a single reference question in January 2018.
According to Mr. Sai Cong Hong, the reference exam must be linked to two purposes: high school graduation and using data to consider college and university admission. Therefore, the exam must be closely linked to this purpose, including 60% basic knowledge and 40% advanced knowledge for classification. In 2018, the exam was expanded to include 20% grade 11 content.
The test has 4 levels: Easy, medium, difficult and relatively difficult and is arranged in order.

Dr. Sai Cong Hong - Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training informed about the exam at the press conference. |
"When I announced the recent reference exam, I received some comments from principals and the press that the exam was too difficult in the differentiation section, and we accepted that," said Mr. Hong.
However, Dr. Sai Cong Hong added that with the Natural Science block such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, the difficult questions will lean towards the nature of the phenomena of Physics and Chemistry, not on calculations.
"In these subjects, questions about experiments and practice also begin to appear to gradually approach the new textbook program in the coming time, but according to the roadmap from less to more in the following years. Otherwise, students will be shocked.
We hope this will have an impact on teaching in high schools, theory needs to go hand in hand with practice," said Mr. Hong.
According to Mr. Hong, in some subjects such as Math, some questions about Math theory will begin to appear so that students can understand the nature of the problem and assess their Math ability.
Select sample exam questions from high schools nationwide as source
Mr. Sai Cong Hong said that the purpose of announcing the sample exam is to guide the review content, not omitting any part of the 11th grade knowledge. In addition, the Ministry also wants to receive feedback from teachers and students so that when building the official exam, it can be most suitable, not causing difficulties for candidates.
In previous years, the construction of exam questions would only be really done when the exam committee members were completely isolated.
However, currently, the Ministry of Education and Training chooses sample exam questions from high schools nationwide as the source, helping the questions to be more authentic and closer to reality.
Mr. Mai Van Trinh, Director of the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training), said that in order to prepare well for the 2018 national high school exam to go smoothly, especially the exam questions and the standardized question bank were completed on schedule, meeting the requirements in both quantity and quality.
The Ministry will also closely monitor the printing, copying, and transportation stages to ensure safety and confidentiality.
In particular, the development and publication of reference exam questions serves as a basis for teachers and students to apply in teaching and learning, reviewing, and preparing for exams.
In 2018, the total number of candidates registered for the exam was 925,964. Of which, 868,980 were students studying in grade 12 in the 2017-2018 school year, and 56,984 were independent candidates.
The number of candidates who registered for the exam only for high school graduation recognition was 237,354. The number of candidates who registered for both high school graduation recognition and admission was 642,587. The number of candidates who registered for the exam only for admission was 46,023.
Thus, in 2018, there will be 879,941 candidates taking the exam to be considered for high school graduation recognition; the number of candidates participating in university and college admission is 688,610.
