The 2025 high school graduation exam will increase the number of questions designed to differentiate candidates.
On February 23rd, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Da Nang Department of Education and Training, and Thanh Nien Newspaper organized the 2025 exam season counseling program at Phan Chau Trinh High School.
The 2025 exam season counseling program is organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Da Nang Department of Education and Training, and Thanh Nien Newspaper on both in-person and online platforms.
The program is supported by nearly 30 educational institutions from Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Hue, and more than 5,000 12th-grade students from high schools in the city.
Mr. Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Quality Management Department, Ministry of Education and Training, informed students, parents, and teachers about some important points regarding the first high school graduation exam and university/college entrance exam under the 2018 General Education Program, which features many innovations.
According to Mr. Huynh Van Chuong, the 2018 General Education Program has undergone significant changes compared to previous programs, particularly in its approach to knowledge acquisition and competency assessment. Therefore, the exam questions are designed to ensure reliable results for high school graduation, evaluate the teaching and learning process, and allow candidates to use the exam results for admission to universities, colleges, and vocational schools.
Specifically, the exam will not only test knowledge but will focus more on assessing the ability to apply knowledge to practice. Many questions will be based on real-life situations in science and society, helping candidates see the connection between their learned knowledge and the world around them.
According to the Director of the Quality Management Department, the 2025 high school graduation exam will be designed to clearly differentiate between groups of candidates. The differentiation will be evident at the level of 7 points or higher. The distribution of questions at the knowledge, comprehension, and application levels will be 4-3-3. With approximately 70% of the questions focusing on knowledge and comprehension, the exam will lean towards the graduation objective, while the remaining 30% will be sufficient to differentiate candidates for university and college admissions.

Another new point that candidates need to note is that the Literature exam may use materials outside of the textbook when constructing the questions. This helps assess students' reading comprehension and appreciation of texts in real-life situations, avoiding rote learning and memorization. The materials may include passages of prose, poetry, or situations related to current events and social life.
At the program, experts and guests representing the Ministry of Education and Training, the Da Nang Department of Education and Training, universities, and colleges introduced, provided, and answered the latest information on the 2025 admission regulations; and directly answered questions from students and parents related to the 2025 college and university entrance exams.
Students participating in the program also heard inspiring stories from Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Dat - Deputy Head of the Training and Quality Assurance Board, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Da Nang University - about studying, choosing a major, and choosing a career. For example, how to maintain a strong mindset and good health before exams, how to choose a suitable profession, and how to plan for the future…
In addition, at the booths, representatives from universities and colleges provided advice, answered questions, introduced information, and guided students in choosing "hot" majors and careers in the coming time.
As part of the program, students participated in many exciting activities at nearly 30 exhibition booths of universities, colleges, and study abroad centers.
