With many new features in the admission regulations, the exam has attracted the attention of many students and parents. These are also the main issues raised at the career counseling session recently organized by the Department of Education and Training in coordination with Nghe An Provincial Youth Union and Tuoi Tre Newspaper in Vinh City.

Will adjust in favor of candidates

Nearly 5,000 students from high schools in Vinh City and neighboring districts attended this year's admissions consultation program. This shows that this is a very important exam and although it is the second year of organization, the exam has never been less "hot". Most of the questions asked focused on the new features that the Ministry of Education and Training has just revised.

Representative of Hanoi National University introduced the Competency Assessment Test organized by the school. This year, the test was expanded in scale and Nghe An continued to be the locality chosen as the test location.

Regarding this, Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Van Trinh, Director of the Department of Testing and Quality, Ministry of Education and Training affirmed: The new regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training have inherited the good aspects of the 2015 National High School Exam and overcome the limitations. The adjustments made by the Ministry are also aimed at benefiting candidates.

Accordingly, in the 2016 national high school exam, instead of only 38 exam clusters like previous years, this year each locality will have one exam cluster chaired by universities and colleges. In localities with a large number of students registering for graduation, there will be one exam cluster chaired by the Department of Education and Training.

To ensure fairness for candidates and security at exam clusters, this year the Ministry of Education and Training will increase lecturers from universities and colleges to supervise exams at local exam clusters and try to "plant" an exam room with an officer from a university.

The representative of the Ministry of Education and Training also said: This year, each candidate is considered for admission to 2 schools, each school has 2 wishes. In addition, candidates can also have additional wishes in the following admission rounds, so compared to the previous exam, the candidates' opportunities are still open. It is important that candidates consider carefully because once they have submitted their application, they cannot change it. Therefore, before choosing, it is necessary to "based on the results, on the enrollment quota of the schools, refer to the admission scores of the previous year to see which school you should apply to".

Regarding this year's exam, Mr. Nam Nhat Minh - Deputy Head of the Department of Admissions Examination Management & Diploma Recognition, Department of Testing and Educational Quality Assessment, Ministry of Education and Training said: The 2016 exam will be similar to the 2015 exam, with a gradual increase in questions about ability and a gradual decrease in questions about memorizing machines and events. Candidates can learn more about the exam questions in previous exams. However, this year, the difficult questions to differentiate candidates will increase. It is expected to be 40%. The remaining 60% will be average questions for graduation recognition.

Nearsighted students can still apply to security schools.

In addition to the content related to the national high school exam, many students participating in the career counseling program are interested in the schools' own admission methods.

Answering a question from a student of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted about the admission method of the University of Technology this year, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Phong Dien, University of Technology, said: The University of Technology will also use the results of the National High School Exam to consider admission to university like most other universities and colleges in the country.

However, because this is a school with a large number of candidates, the school will conduct a preliminary selection of applications before officially considering admission. It is expected that candidates who want to pass the preliminary round must have an average score of 20.0 or higher for the subjects in the group of 03 subjects for the admission exam, calculated for 06 semesters of high school. This condition does not apply to candidates who are eligible for direct admission and candidates who take the joint exam from the school's regular college system to university.

The separate admission method of Hanoi National University also received many questions from students, because this is the first school to organize admission based on the results of the capacity assessment exam organized by the school. According to the plan, the first round of the capacity assessment exam will take place in May.

In terms of form, candidates will take a computer-based competency assessment test, lasting 195 minutes. The content of knowledge is a synthesis of the general education program. Candidates taking the foreign language exam will take an additional foreign language exam on the computer to ensure transparency. Candidates taking the National University exam will also know their scores immediately after submitting their exam. Therefore, this is a completely objective exam, without any negativity.

Nearly 5,000 students came to learn about the National High School Exam. Many major universities in the Northern provinces also came directly to advise students.

The new feature this year is that the scale of the exam is more extensive. The school agreed to let a number of training institutions participate in organizing the exam and use the results of the competency assessment exam to serve the enrollment work. These schools include the University of Natural Resources and Environment, Thu Do University, Nguyen Trai University, Da Nang University of Architecture, and Nam Dinh University of Technical Education.

Nghe An was also chosen by Hanoi National University as one of seven locations to hold the exam. The exam scores for Hanoi National University will be retained for up to 24 months.

A favorable information for candidates applying to specialized schools such as security and police was announced by Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Dong, Vice Principal of the Fire Prevention and Fighting University: Candidates still have to go through the preliminary selection process to ensure standards of age, health, academic ability, conduct, and background according to regulations of the Ministry of Public Security.

Candidates with myopia are still allowed to take the exam if they have committed to treatment when completing their application. In case of being admitted, they must have their eyes treated to ensure they meet the prescribed vision standards before enrolling.

The National High School Exam is considered a “2 in 1” exam because only one result can be used to recognize graduation and apply for admission to universities. According to representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Education’s change in the admission form from before the exam to after the results is approaching the university admission method of advanced countries in the world. However, in addition to the exam results, candidates also need to consider and choose before submitting their application.

Currently, many students choose their career based on their feelings rather than their understanding. They are easily attracted by the name of the major, choose a school based on the majority, based on "reputation" without understanding the major or their own strength, leading to choosing the wrong career or low chances of entering university.

In addition, many students have incorrect concepts about careers. In fact, whether studying at secondary school, college or university, it means studying a profession. Therefore, you must prepare yourself mentally to choose a career. Most importantly, you must choose your own path and set your own goals. Regarding the concerns of candidates about choosing a school or a career, whether to choose a school in the North or the South, Dr. Vu Viet Binh, Deputy Head of the Training Department of Hanoi National University, hopes that the young generation of Vietnam today should change their thinking about careers.
