Proposing a mechanism to maintain the operation of private high schools.
(Baonghean.vn) – Difficulties in student recruitment have led to a decrease in the number of students; teachers lack work, causing psychological distress among teachers in private high schools.
These were the issues raised at the working session between the Culture and Social Affairs Committee of the Provincial People's Council and several principals of private high schools on the afternoon of March 13th.

According to general feedback from the principals of several private high schools in Vinh City and the districts of Dien Chau and Hung Nguyen, the general situation is that schools are currently reducing class sizes. For example, Nguyen Trai High School (Vinh City) currently has only 3 classes across 3 grades, with a total of 100 students; similarly, Nguyen Hue High School (Vinh City) also only has 3 classes across 3 grades with 69 students. In some high schools, such as Dinh Bat Tuy High School (Hung Nguyen), Nguyen Du, Nguyen Van To, and Quang Trung High Schools (Dien Chau district), the student population is larger, averaging over 300 students per school, but compared to the past, it has also decreased significantly.
According to Mr. Le Tat Dao, Principal of Dinh Bat Tuy High School, at one point, the school had 334 students enrolled in grade 10 alone, but currently, all three grades combined only have 317 students. This situation is leading to a waste of facilities in private schools and human resources in these schools.
The reasons for the decrease in student numbers, besides the mechanical reduction in student numbers, include the channeling of students into vocational training from grade 9 and the shortcomings in school network planning, with too many schools being opened in one area. For example, the northern part of Dien Chau district currently has 5 high schools, including 2 public and 3 private schools. Meanwhile, the number of classes and the number of students per class in the public schools approved for enrollment increase every year.

To ensure the continued operation of private high schools to meet the projected increase in the number of students attending public schools, it is necessary to reduce class sizes and student-to-teacher ratios in public schools. Simultaneously, attention should be paid to maintaining the previous ratio of 60% of students attending public schools and 40% attending private schools.
Speaking at the meeting, Comrade Ho Phuc Hop - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial Propaganda Department, and Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Committee of the Provincial People's Council - affirmed: The network of schools has been expanding, including the role of private schools, to meet the learning needs of students. To maintain the existence of current private high schools, the schools themselves must strive to improve. The Culture and Social Affairs Committee of the Provincial People's Council will be responsible for proposing to the Department of Education and Training and the Provincial People's Committee to study the mechanism of enrollment quotas between public and private high schools to ensure suitability with the trend of socialization.
