The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has just sent a draft on the 2018 holiday plan. It is expected that workers will have 7 consecutive days off for the 2018 Lunar New Year.

Through reviewing the 2018 calendar, the holidays during the year are all linked to weekly days off, there is no situation of 1 or 2 working days alternating between holidays. Therefore, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs proposes not to implement the swap of weekly days off during the holidays and Tet in 2018.

According to the Labor Code, employees are entitled to 5 days off. The 2018 Lunar New Year holiday falls on the weekend, so employees will be compensated with 2 consecutive days off. Thus, the total number of days off during the 2018 Lunar New Year holiday is 7 days. The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has developed 2 plans with different numbers of days off before Tet.

Option 1: Take 2 days off before Tet, 3 days off after Tet, and 7 consecutive days off from February 14, 2018 to February 20, 2018 (ie December 29 to January 5).

Option 2: Take 1 day off before Tet, 4 days after Tet, from February 15, 2018 to February 21, 2018 (ie December 30 to January 6). Including 1 day before Tet, 4 days after Tet.

In the draft, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs supports the proposal to choose option 1. According to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, implementing the number of days off according to option 1 is harmonious and suitable because the number of days off before Tet is 2 days which is not too short, the number of days off after Tet is 5 days which is suitable. With this option, the intermittent working days are 2 consecutive days, so the negative impact of intermittent working is not much.

The draft has just been sent by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to seek opinions from relevant ministries and branches before submitting it to the Government for final decision on the plan for the 2018 Lunar New Year holiday and other holidays in 2018./.
