What's special about the Miss Vietnam final night?

The biggest investment budget ever, more professional performance skills of the contestants, international music stars participating... director Hoang Nhat Nam revealed.

The final night of Miss Vietnam 2016 is considered the most spectacular in history, in what aspects does that reflect? Do you implicitly compare it with some of the most successful nights of Miss Vietnam?

I was lucky to participate in Miss Vietnam 2014, that year was also the first year that Miss Vietnam made it big, investing heavily from the final round, especially the Southern final round in Bac Lieu, live on VTV. The second year participating as the General Director, as directed from the beginning by the Organizing Committee, I turned the two final rounds into two large-scale live television shows, the stage was invested in, staged and the contestants' performances were raised to the highest possible level of professionalism.

Once the two final rounds are upgraded, the final must be upgraded to match the public's expectations. The audience can easily see the investment from the contestants' activities, more experience, and the professional team training in catwalk and performance skills. Especially the final night with the participation of international star Bi Rain. In short, everything is upgraded first of all in terms of budget.

This year, the mobilization of social resources from sponsors is very large, shown through the frequency of dense logos on backgrounds and publications. Only with reality can we support morality, from the resources and trust of partners, there is no reason why we should not make the contest more impressive, attractive and of better quality. Whether it is bigger than previous years or not, I do not intend to compare, I just know to do well.

The stage design exudes the theme “Pearl of the Far East”, apart from this, how do you interpret that idea throughout the show?

The idea of ​​the Ngoc Vien Dong stage with the shape of a flying pearl, is like a dream of prosperity and development not only for Ho Chi Minh City - the host location this year, but also for the country on the East Sea coast. With the nature of a beauty contest with so many intertwined parts, perhaps in this final night, the first part includes the opening and the competitions - especially the traditional ao dai performance conveying the essence of Ngoc Vien Dong to praise the land of old Saigon and the modern, developed Ho Chi Minh City. The theme song Ngoc Nga Viet Nam was composed specifically for Miss Vietnam 2016, praising the beauty of Vietnamese girls, the landscape and people, especially the heart and character of Vietnamese women, which are likened to jade. The beauty of jade is pure, shining from within.

Part one can be considered the most intense part to express the theme of the program. The following parts such as bikini competition, evening gown and especially the final highlight is the appearance of Bi Rain with youthful, dynamic and modern colors, like the exciting and bustling atmosphere of Ho Chi Minh City today through the performance of young singers.

The musical material in the program is also a headache to choose, because serving a rather large audience, finding songs, music quality, and who performs is also a stressful issue. However, I also hope that the script structure balances the age and audience. There are familiar songs such as Saigon Dep Lam, Thuo Ay Co Em, following the familiar love song style that connects many generations, in addition there are quite young songs that are of interest, and some new songs by Dong Nhi or Ngoc Nga Viet Nam by Duong Khac Linh.

The contestant's performance was led by Noo Phuoc Thinh, why did you choose this male singer? Was it a bit too preferential for Toc Tien and Dong Nhi, these two young singers?

With a top male star receiving attention like Bi Rain, many people think that during the show, other male stars might feel overshadowed, but in the script, the choice of songs, the musical material, and the staging, each person is assigned a separate role, regardless of male or female singers, paternal or maternal, and they have the value of appearing at the right time.

The audience will be treated to a feast of dishes after dishes, in such a way that they still crave for more. Noo Phuoc Thinh is loved by many audiences for his youthful courtesy, modern and civilized musical color. He leads the contestants on a beautiful Saigon background music, the jazz music also evokes the splendid old Saigon, bustling streets. The contestants appear at the shining moment of the city today, in a custom-made Elise costume with a metallic fringe dress trend, mixed with Latin so that you can dance like the captivating Latin dance in the first part.

Toc Tien and Dong Nhi are two female singers who receive a lot of attention and love from young people. This is the first time the two have combined in an explosive performance in the middle of the program - the bikini competition. Choosing two beautiful singers with hot looks helps the interaction between the contestants and the singers, and is also an opportunity to show off to Bi Rain fans around the world the choreography and body of the two singers, creating a sexy and energetic combination.

Toc Tien and Dong Nhi combined their unique performance, can you tell us more about it?

Receiving the invitation from the Organizing Committee, the two girls were excited because both of them had experience performing solo, but this time the combination of the resonance was multiplied and there were 30 more flowers shining in their costumes. The music was based on one of the two "hit" songs, with the role of one person singing the other's "hit". Dong Nhi performed the new song in turn, conveying the message of a strong, confident woman of the new era. The girl of the new era always wants to shine, affirm her own strength, and the beauty of femininity is shown in the program. The two girls will appear one after another flying from the stands to the stage very proudly, very sublimely.

The final night has four MCs, isn't that a bit much?

In the past, not only the program I did but also many other competitions, no matter how perfect, professional, charming, the MC still had some mistakes. It was unavoidable because the MC had to lead and read too many parameters of the contestants in 3 hours, even people with nerves of steel could easily make mistakes. So we had to add another pair to assign roles, each person taking turns in the program so that they would have time to change their costumes, and have fresher costumes after each appearance. In addition, they would grasp, remember, and be more fluent in each part, have time to rest and reduce stress, and everything would go more smoothly. That was the intention and desire of the program director, not that the more MCs there were, the more they would show off the grandeur of the program.

After 14 years, Miss Vietnam 2016 returns to Ho Chi Minh City. What do you expect from this final night?

The contest returns to Ho Chi Minh City, promoting the city's tourism beauty. Wherever Miss Vietnam goes, it brings beauty and cultural colors. The final night in the South was quite joyful, I hope the final night goes smoothly, especially finding a worthy new beauty queen to add a wonderful flavor to the long journey of the contest. The crew and the organizers all put all their efforts into painting a colorful picture.

What is special about Ao Dai and bikini?

General director Hoang Nhat Nam said: “This year, the three consecutive performances (regional finals and finals) are not long apart, each night has its own ideological theme and design. It also wears down my ideas quite a bit, and the time is quite stressful. I am not very satisfied with the ao dai, because I do not have enough time to think, draw and sew. However, the color of the ao dai with a white background shows off the blue dotted lines of the sea, the emerald color of the sky and clouds, or the gentle lines of ink on the ao dai. On stage, the color is cool and gentle, not many colors and divided into warm and cold tones. The 3D printed ao dai, with pearl embellishments, still exudes a soft, airy look. When people look up at the stage, they see the ao dai not as brilliant, gorgeous and splendid, but as gentle as clouds and ocean waves.

This bikini still uses the main pink tone, the shirt style is a bit different with accents, pink stone embellishments create a sparkling, shimmering look like a prom when the contestant performs.
