Ms. Khoe (in Kien Giang) was happy with her successful husband, but no one expected that the young woman would commit suicide after giving her two children poison.

For the past three days, people in An Minh district (Kien Giang) have been in an uproar after hearing that the daughter of Mr. Nguyen To in Muong Dao hamlet (Van Khanh commune) gave her two children milk mixed with weed killer. The young mother also drank poison soon after and used a piece of glass to cut her hands and neck.

"What crime did the two children commit that they had to die with her? Ms. Khoe was too thoughtless, resulting in the death of the 18-month-old boy and the young mother. How reprehensible," said a resident of the 11th town of An Minh district.

Late in the afternoon of July 9, Mr. To and a few relatives dug a grave behind the house so that the family could bring their daughter Nguyen Thi Khoe (25 years old) from Rach Gia City here for burial on the morning of July 10. According to the father, Khoe was the only daughter in a family of three.

The young woman got married at the age of 19. Her parents were very proud to have a highly educated son-in-law who was successful in the telecommunications industry, Nguyen Trung Kien (36 years old, Deputy Director of VNPT Kien Luong district).

When she first got married, Ms. Khoe lived with Mr. Kien's parents in Ngoc Hoa commune, Giong Rieng district (Kien Giang). A few years later, the family's life became better, and they bought a house in Vinh Quang ward, Rach Gia city.

On the afternoon of July 8, Mr. To saw his daughter bring her two grandchildren home to visit. Everyone thought that Ms. Khoe and her children were visiting their hometown like every other time and no one saw any unusual behavior from the young woman.

At around 2am on July 8, while waiting for everyone in the biological parents’ house to fall asleep, Ms. Khoe mixed milk for her children. The two boys did not know that their mother had put poison in the glass of milk, but the 5-year-old boy spat it out because it tasted bitter in his mouth. The 18-month-old boy was unconscious and drank it all and died on the spot.

While her two children were unconscious, Ms. Khoe took the bottle of poison and ran to the pigsty to drink it. At this time, the mother of the young woman suddenly woke up. She went to the next room to check on her children but Ms. Khoe was nowhere to be found.

The lights in the house were on, Mr. To's wife discovered her grandchildren, one dead, the other writhing. Everyone ran out of the house to look for Ms. Khoe and found the young woman lying on the grass. The three mother and children were taken to An Minh District Hospital by relatives for emergency treatment, but the 18-month-old baby had long since died.

That same night, Khoe and her 5-year-old son were transferred to a higher level. After a day of intensive care, the child was out of danger and able to communicate with relatives, but the mother did not survive.

Hearing the news of his wife and son's death, Mr. Kien returned home after more than a week of voluntarily quitting his job. VNPT Kien Giang inspected its finances and discovered that VNPT Kien Luong had lost billions of dong from the sale of Vinaphone scratch cards, which were believed to be related to Mr. Kien and a female material management officer.

Faced with a family tragedy, the husband turned himself in to the police and confessed to his illegal actions. While Kien Giang police were in the process of temporarily detaining Kien, they learned that the suspect's wife and child had passed away, so the Deputy Director of the telecommunications center was bailed out by his family and allowed to return home to take care of his relatives' funeral.

According to Khoe’s family, Kien rarely visits his wife’s parents because he works far from home. A year ago, when their son was a few months old, Kien received his master’s degree, doubling the family’s joy. Many times on social media, the wife expressed her happiness and often posted pictures with her husband and child.

"Up to now, the family still does not know why Khoe gave her two children poison and then committed suicide. Maybe Khoe was shocked when she heard that her husband was involved in a huge loss of money from the agency," said a relative of Mr. To.

Speaking to Zing.vn, a doctor from the Pediatric Emergency Department at Kien Giang General Hospital said that Khoe's 5-year-old son had been transferred to Ho Chi Minh City by his family on the morning of July 10. "The baby's health is good and he is eating normally," said a doctor.
