During these dry days, farmers in the communes of Do Luong district are busy going to the fields to speed up winter crop production. Farmers said that winter crop production is quite hard, while the agricultural workforce is mainly middle-aged and older, but because they have a lot of experience in production, they actively grow crops every year to supply the market and have an additional source of income.

Ms. Ho Thi Thuan in Luu Tho hamlet, Luu Son commune said that with these 2 sao of rice land, every year her family grows cucumbers, squash and sweet potatoes, earning more than 25 million VND. This year, despite their old age, they still maintain growing 2 sao of cucumbers, squash for tops and sweet potatoes.
Observing the fields of Do Luong district, besides the fields that have just been planted with winter crops, there are also some vegetables, tubers, and fruits that have been harvested. Among them, bitter melon was planted by the people more than a month ago, and is now being harvested and sold at high prices. Ms. Phan Thi Hoa, the owner of the bitter melon field in Luu Son commune, said that after harvesting the spring rice, her family did not sow summer-autumn crops but instead planted bitter melon on an area of 1 sao. Sowing from the beginning of July, harvesting by the beginning of August. After 1 month, the family harvested 200 kg of fruit, selling for 10,000 - 12,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Tran Van Tuan - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Luu Son commune said: As a locality with a tradition of winter crop production, every year people actively stick to winter crops, with high-value vegetables, tubers and fruits: Cucumber, green beans, squash, bitter melon, eggplant... This year the commune's plan is to plant 60 hectares of winter crops, by September 13, people have planted 20 hectares on fertile land and land for two rice crops.
According to data from the Do Luong District Agricultural Service Center, the district plans to plant more than 1,000 hectares of winter crops this year. Accordingly, corn is mainly grown on alluvial land along the river; vegetables, tubers, and fruits of all kinds are arranged to be grown on single-rice crop land and double-rice crop land. As of September 13, the whole district has planted about 200 - 250 hectares. Mr. Le Anh Son - Director of the Do Luong District Agricultural Service Center said that for high-value vegetables, tubers, and fruits such as bitter melon, cucumber, green beans, squash, etc., in previous years, people earned over 200 million VND/ha.

This winter, Yen Thanh district plans to plant 1,500 hectares of corn and various vegetables. Mr. Nguyen Trong Huong - Director of the district's Agricultural Service Center said that due to recent rainy weather, corn planting progress on two-rice crop land has been slow. Various vegetables are planted by farmers in the semi-mountainous communes of Lien Thanh, Ly Thanh, Minh Thanh, Quang Thanh, Thinh Thanh, Vien Thanh... and are currently planting about 400 hectares.

This winter crop, the whole province strives to plant 34,690 hectares of various winter crops. According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc - Head of the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, as of September 13, the total area of winter crops planted was nearly 5,000 hectares/plan of 34,690 hectares, reaching 14.37% of the plan.
Of which: Corn has been planted with an area of over 2,934 hectares/plan of 19,000 hectares (reaching 15.45%), concentrated in Dien Chau, Nam Dan, Yen Thanh, Anh Son, Nghia Dan districts...; Peanuts, with an area of over 762 hectares/plan of 1,000 hectares (reaching 83.33%), in Dien Chau, Nghi Loc, Nam Dan districts; Vegetables of all kinds, with an area of over 1,266 hectares/plan of 13,200 hectares, reaching 9.59%, in Nghi Loc, Nam Dan, Dien Chau, Yen Thanh, Anh Son districts...; Sweet potatoes, with an area of over 20 hectares/plan of 1,240 hectares, reaching 1.63%, in Nam Dan district.
