(Baonghean.vn) - According to statistics from the Department of Industry and Trade, there are currently 397 traditional markets in operation in the province, with about 62,000 business households. The traditional market system contributes nearly 34 billion VND/year to the provincial budget. The goal is that by 2020, the number of traditional markets in the province will increase to 459 markets, to meet the needs of trading, production and consumption of the people.
Currently, out of a total of 397 traditional markets, there are 7 grade 1 markets, 18 grade 2 markets, 238 grade 3 markets and 134 temporary markets.
The traditional market system is currently the main distribution channel serving the trading and consumption needs of the people. However, investment and upgrading of traditional markets in the province are still limited, not meeting the requirements of fire prevention, environmental sanitation, food safety, etc. The whole province currently has 153 permanent markets, 129 semi-permanent markets and 115 temporary markets.

The work of model conversion, business management and market exploitation is still slow compared to the requirements. The majority of traditional markets still operate under the form of contract management of 206 markets, 175 markets operate under the model of management boards and self-management teams, the remaining 7 markets are managed by cooperatives and only 9 markets are managed by enterprises.
Some rural markets have not been invested in according to planning. On the contrary, some markets have been invested but have not been effective, causing waste of resources such as: Tan Long Market (Tan Ky), Thach Ngan Market (Con Cuong) ...

By 2020, the province strives to have 459 traditional markets in the province, including 22 grade 1 markets, 64 grade 2 markets, 340 grade 3 markets and 33 temporary markets.
The goal is to develop a system of traditional markets in the province in a civilized and modern direction, combined with traditional elements; to fully and promptly meet the needs of trade, production and consumption of the people; at the same time, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of the province.
