King Quang Trung Temple - Vinh City's tourist highlight

Due to the unique characteristics of natural conditions and the long-standing tradition of heroic struggle, the people here have the valuable qualities of being willing to sacrifice everything, wholeheartedly supporting heroic deeds, fighting to regain a peaceful and prosperous life for their homeland and country.

Nguyen Hue Quang Trung clearly saw the strategic situation of the land of Dung Quyet and issued an edict: "Now the capital of Phu Xuan is in a difficult situation, now governing Bac Ha, the situation is very difficult. According to the court, the capital should be located in Nghe An, which is a balanced position, can control both the South and the North, and will make it convenient for people from all over to come and sue... Recalling the previous period of chaos, when passing Hoanh Son, the palace once opened the map. I saw that in Chan Loc district, Yen Truong commune, the terrain is spacious, the weather is bright. It can be chosen to build a new capital, it is truly a beautiful place to build the capital".

The land with a spacious shape and bright weather in Yen Truong commune, Chan Loc district is the land between Dung Quyet mountain and Ky Lan mountain, now in Trung Do ward, Vinh city. Nguyen Hue assigned Tran Thu Than and La Son Phu Tu Nguyen Thiep to organize the construction of Phuong Hoang Trung Do citadel.

The outer wall of Phoenix Central Capital was built of earth and laterite, in a quadrilateral shape with a perimeter of about 2,820m, a rampart 3 - 4m high, and an area of ​​22ha. Surrounding the outside of the wall is a moat about 30m wide and 2.5m to 3m deep.

The inner citadel was built of bricks and laterite, with a perimeter of 1,680m and a height of 2m. Inside the citadel there is a 3-storey building with laterite steps in the front and two corridors in the back connecting to Thai Hoa Palace, which was used for King Quang Trung's court sessions.

Just over a year later, on October 5, Ky Dau year, in the edict sent to La Son Phu Tu Nguyen Thiep, Nguyen Hue - Quang Trung once again affirmed the construction of Phuong Hoang Trung Do to establish the capital in Nghe An: "I have traveled to Bac Thanh three times. Sir, you have discussed world affairs. The ancients said that "one word can raise a career". Sir, you must have that ability, and you are not the type of person who only works closely with yourself... I now establish the capital in Nghe An, close to you. From now on, Sir, please come out and help each other to govern the country...".

According to documents in the remaining books, King Quang Trung worked in Phuong Hoang Trung Do at least twice.

Unfortunately, King Quang Trung suddenly passed away on July 29, Nham Ty year (1792) before he could move the capital from Phu Xuan to Phuong Hoang Trung Do.

Phuong Hoang Trung Do is a heroic testament demonstrating the cultural vision of Nguyen Hue Quang Trung in the process of fighting to unify the country and build a peaceful and prosperous life for the Vietnamese people.

The temple is located on the second peak of Dung Quyet mountain, 97m above sea level, in the sacred land chosen by King Quang Trung as the capital more than 220 years ago. The project was inaugurated on May 7, 2008. The temple has a large scale, a large campus, beautiful architecture; there are lower halls, middle halls, upper halls, left and right wings, three-door gates, sacrificial objects... restored according to the culture of the Nguyen Dynasty. This is a spiritual and cultural project associated with tourism, meeting the needs of domestic and foreign tourists to admire, commemorate the merits of Emperor Quang Trung and enjoy the landscape of a cultural region with charming mountains and rivers, a land of talented people rich in epics, imbued with the identity of Nghe An. Standing on the site of King Quang Trung temple, we can see the whole view of Vinh city, Hong mountain, Lam river, Cua Lo sea, Ngu island, Mat island, Tien Dien village, the hometown of the great poet Nguyen Du, the hometown of President Ho Chi Minh.

The entire temple is made of ironwood. The walkways, sidewalks, and temple yard are paved with Thanh Hoa stone, creating a majestic, modern yet no less ancient look. The truss system of the temple is in the style of a gong-shaped frame, carved with motifs in the style of the Nguyen Dynasty. The roof is covered with fish-tail tiles, consisting of two layers: mat tiles, reed tiles, the floor is paved with ancient Bat Trang tiles restored from Ha Tay. The walls are built with Bat bricks, the doors and windows are in the style of upper-side and lower-side curtains...

The temple has two entrances on both sides, in the middle is the outer gate (four-pillar gate) designed with 2 floors and 8 roofs according to the Book of Changes.

Next is the four-pillar screen erected right on the main axis, made of elaborately and beautifully carved stone. On both sides of the screen are engraved brocade seals, in the middle is a scroll, in the center are two characters for Tho De. Above is a dragon facing the moon. At the bottom are kneeling legs with a fish's stomach, carved with a tiger symbol. On both sides are two standing lions, symbolizing the role of guardians controlling the souls of those entering and leaving.

Through the four-pillar screen are two stele houses facing each other parallel to the main axis. The stele house on the left is engraved with the article "King Quang Trung's achievements", the stele house on the right is engraved with the article "President Ho Chi Minh wrote about Quang Trung". Next are the left and right stele houses.

Through this area is the large worshiping house, also known as the front hall, where the ceremony is prepared and decorated before the ceremony. The front hall can be considered the center of the temple, designed in the Vietnamese folk architectural style, consisting of three rooms, two wings, and four rows of columns.

The back hall and the main gate are all two-story, eight-roofed buildings with curved dragon and phoenix carvings at the top and corners, creating a majestic appearance. According to feng shui, this arrangement is to prevent evil spirits…

Street named after Quang Trung

Quang Trung Temple was built over a period of 3 years, with a total investment of more than 22 billion VND, undertaken by the Cultural Construction Joint Stock Company under the Ministry of Culture and Information. This is one of 36 construction items of the historical relic complex of Dung Quyet Mountain Park.

Nghe An has many beautiful mountains and rivers, many famous scenic spots that are known to many people. Not only that, but nowadays, when coming to Nghe An, tourists cannot help but visit the temple of King Quang Trung - a spiritual cultural work with many majestic and mysterious features.

Since the inauguration of the Quang Trung King Temple, thousands of domestic and foreign tourists have come to visit. The highest leaders of the Party and Government such as President Nguyen Minh Triet, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, etc. have also visited the Quang Trung King Temple. Especially every time Tet comes, thousands of people from all over the country flock here to worship and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the land and sky.
