Sticky and fragrant sticky corn from Cua Lo coastal area

(Baonghean.vn) - In addition to attractive specialties, visitors to Cua Lo can also enjoy fragrant sticky corn products with a rich taste of the sea.

No one knows since when sticky corn has become the second food of Cua Lo people because rice is difficult to grow due to lack of water. And Cua Lo's sticky corn with its sweet, fragrant characteristics has been favored by locals and tourists when the season comes.

Corn is planted by Cua Lo farmers from early February to late May, right in the sea tourism season, so it sells well and gives people a good income. In the fields of Nghi Huong, Nghi Hoa and Nghi Thu, Cua Lo farmers have planted 200 hectares of corn, such as: corn varieties HN 88, ADI 600, 30I87, NK 6654, NK4300 into production. Corn is planted on sandy soil, thanks to the correct application of technical processes, the corn plants develop and grow well.

When the harvest season comes, local people start pruning young corn cobs to sell. All corn varieties have high yields of 57-60 quintals/ha, an increase of 5-6 quintals/ha compared to last year. For waxy corn, the price fluctuates from 2-3 thousand VND/cob.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, Head of Block 13, Nghi Huong Ward, Cua Lo Town said: “Local people mainly grow glutinous rice varieties to serve the culinary needs of tourists. This year, Block 13 alone has put 1 hectare of agricultural land into growing high-yield glutinous corn.”

Undeniably, sticky corn has contributed to increasing the income of local people. From this product, each harvest season, farmers earn from 45 to 50 million VND/ha. One sao of sticky corn earns about 10 million VND.
