Go mow lawn, 'conveniently' transport heroin for neighbor
(Baonghean.vn) - Biet Va Y Mo was about to go cut grass when her neighbor asked her to hold two heroin bricks. The woman agreed and was about to transport the drugs when she was arrested by the police.
On December 30, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Va Y Mo (born 1989), residing in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".
According to the indictment, early in the morning of May 27, Va Y Mo was preparing to cut grass when a neighbor named Ly Nhia Tho asked him “where are you going?” “To cut grass,” Mo replied.
At this time, Tho told Mo: "Go cut grass down there and bring 2 cakes of goods (heroin) down to Vu Xay Denh". Mo agreed so he took the bag containing drugs and went down to Tam Hop village, Tri Le commune.

On the way, Mo was signaled by the Traffic Police Team of Que Phong District Police to check. Panicked, Mo turned the car around, ran to a house, stopped, then threw the bag of drugs into the garden and was discovered by the police. The evidence of the case was more than 711 grams.
Based on Mo's testimony, the investigation agency issued an emergency detention order for Ly Nhia Tho and Vu Xay Denh, but these two people were not present in the area. With the collected documents and evidence, there is not enough basis to initiate an investigation into the case against the two subjects.
At the trial, the defendant said that his neighbor asked him to hold the drugs, and because it was on the way to mow the lawn, he agreed. As for how much money he was promised, the defendant said “none.”
The defendant presented his difficult circumstances, being an ethnic minority, a poor household, and having many children, asking the court to consider reducing his sentence.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant’s actions were in violation of the law. However, it was also necessary to consider some mitigating circumstances for the defendant, such as his honest confession, remorse, and being an ethnic minority. Considering the case as a whole, the court sentenced the defendant Va Y Mo to 20 years in prison.
