A poor family in Hue drowned while picking water spinach to cook for dinner.

At 3:00 p.m. this afternoon (November 5), in Vinh Thanh commune (Phu Vang district, Thua Thien-Hue), a tragic drowning incident occurred, killing two people.

At that time, Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen (50 years old, living in village 2, Vinh Thanh commune) with her son Phan Ba ​​Tri (20 years old) and 2 other children went to the lotus pond area of ​​Vinh Thanh commune to pick water spinach for dinner. While standing on the shore reaching down to the lake to pick vegetables, Ms. Yen slipped and fell into the lake.

Immediately after Mrs. Yen fell into the water, Mr. Tri and 2 other children of Mrs. Yen jumped into the lake to save their mother, but all 4 of them drowned. Discovering the incident, a nearby resident immediately jumped into the lake to rescue Mrs. Yen and her children, but because the lake water was deep, the rescue was difficult. When all 4 victims were brought to shore, Mrs. Yen and Mr. Tri had died, the remaining 2 were rescued in time.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Chinh - Chairman of Vinh Thanh Commune People's Committee said that Ms. Yen's family is among the poor in the locality. Her husband passed away early, so for many years, Ms. Yen has worked hard in many different jobs to raise her 3 children.

After the incident, local authorities visited and provided initial support to the victim's family.
