A poor family in Hue drowned tragically while picking water spinach to cook for dinner.

At 3:00 p.m. this afternoon (November 5), in Vinh Thanh commune (Phu Vang district, Thua Thien-Hue), a tragic drowning incident occurred, killing 2 people.

At that time, Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen (50 years old, living in Hamlet 2, Vinh Thanh Commune) and her son Phan Ba ​​Tri (20 years old) and 2 other children went to the lotus pond area of ​​Vinh Thanh Commune to pick water spinach for dinner. While standing on the shore reaching down to the pond to pick vegetables, Ms. Yen slipped and fell into the pond.

Immediately after Ms. Yen fell into the water, Mr. Tri and Ms. Yen's two other children jumped into the lake to save their mother, but all four of them sank. Discovering the incident, a nearby resident immediately jumped into the lake to rescue Ms. Yen and her children, but because the lake water was deep, the rescue was difficult. When all four victims were brought to shore, Ms. Yen and Mr. Tri had died, while the other two were rescued in time.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Chinh - Chairman of Vinh Thanh Commune People's Committee said that Ms. Yen's family is one of the poor in the locality. Her husband passed away early, so for many years Ms. Yen has worked hard in many different jobs to raise her 3 children.

After the incident, local authorities visited and provided initial support to the victim's family.
