Going fishing, 'by the way' accepting to transport drugs
(Baonghean.vn) - After returning from hauling in a net, Thai was hired by a person to transport drugs about 200m for 10 million VND.
On November 29, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Ha Van Thai (born 1966), residing in Muong Noc commune, Que Phong district, for two crimes of Illegally transporting and storing narcotics.
Ha Van Thai was imprisoned twice with a 2-year sentence for "Illegal drug trafficking". After being released from prison, Thai often used drugs.

According to the indictment, on the evening of June 9, 2021, on the way back from pulling nets, Thai met a man. Through conversation, it was known that Thai wasaddictThis person asked to be hired to transport drugs to the gate of Que Phong District Hospital and would be paid 10 million VND.
After that, this person gave Thai a bag of drugs (weighing more than 300 grams) and arranged a time for delivery. Thai also received 10 million VND and an additional package of drugs from the person who hired him.
When he arrived at the area near the cemetery, Thai hid the drugs that the man hired him to transport. As for the drugs that he was given, Thai took them home and hid them in his bedroom for later use.
On the morning of June 10, Thai went to get the drugs he had hidden to deliver to a customer, but was discovered by Que Phong District Police during an inspection. On the same day, the Police urgently searched Thai's residence and seized 3 packages of drugs with a total weight of more than 53 grams.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the two crimes as charged in the indictment. The defendant stated that because he was addicted and greedy, he agreed to transport drugs for a fee of 10 million VND. Regarding the distance he was hired to transport drugs, Thai stated that it was about 200m.
After considering aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel sentenced defendant Ha Van Thai to 20 years in prison for "Illegal transportation of narcotics" and 10 years in prison for "Illegal possession of narcotics". The total sentence forced defendant Thai to serve a 30-year prison sentence.
