Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for buying acacia trees while 'conveniently' trafficking drugs
(Baonghean.vn) - While buying glue, Lo Van Tuan accidentally met a man who worked as a motorbike taxi driver. This man repeatedly asked him to deliver drugs to customers, Tuan nodded in agreement. A 20-year prison sentence was given to the greedy young man.
On the morning of October 9, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Lo Van Tuan (born 1985), residing in Chau Binh commune, Quy Chau district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".
During the investigation, the defendant's criminal behavior was shown as follows: on May 26, 2019, Tuan drove a motorbike to buy glue. When he arrived at Cam Muoi intersection, Chau Thanh commune, Quy Hop district, he met a motorbike taxi driver and asked him for directions to buy glue. However, because he could not agree on a price, Tuan went home and the motorbike taxi driver asked Tuan: "Can you take the drugs down the hill and turn back to Chau Thanh commune?". Tuan said "let's see how it goes" and left.

On May 28, Tuan continued to look for the glue and met the man from the day before. The motorbike taxi driver continued to ask: "Have you decided on the matter from yesterday?". Tuan replied: "Let me go look at the glue for a while and then we'll decide." A while later, Tuan returned and agreed to take the drugs down the mountain slope. The driver told Tuan: "Take the drugs down there and a man named Linh will give you 150 million VND. If you take them back, I'll give you 10 million VND."
Tuan put drugs on his motorbike and then moved to the designated location. At 7 p.m. the same day, when Lo Van Tuan was delivering drugs in Chau Thanh commune, he was discovered by Quy Hop district police, caught red-handed, and seized drugs with a weight of 310 grams of heroin.
At the trial, Tuan stated that because the motorbike taxi driver kept urging him to deliver the drugs to the customer, he agreed.
In this case, the defendant had mitigating circumstances such as being honest in his confession, committing the crime for the first time, and having a good character. Considering the whole case, the court sentenced Lo Van Tuan to 20 years in prison for “Illegal drug trafficking”.
