Going to a motel with a young lover, a 17-year-old man went to jail

On June 26, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of LMĐ (born 2002), residing in Yen Thanh district, for the crime of "Raping a person under 16 years old".
According to the indictment, on December 2, 2019, D. made friends and texted PTH (born 2007) via Facebook. The two then accepted each other as lovers.
On the evening of December 4, D. invited H. to go out. At 10 p.m. the same day, the young man drove his girlfriend home and H.'s grandmother had already closed the door. D. asked H. where she would sleep. The 12-year-old girl replied, "I can sleep anywhere." So D. said, "Let's go to a motel and sleep with me." Then he took his girlfriend to rent a motel.
Here, this young man had "adult things" with his lover 3 times.
On December 26, 2019, PTH reported LMĐ's actions to the police. On the same day, the young man turned himself in to the police. At the time of the crime, Đ. was just over 17 years old and the victim was just over 12 years old.
Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced LMĐ to 5 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of “Raping a person under 16 years old”. Regarding civil matters, after the incident, Đ.’s family compensated the victim 10 million VND. At the trial, PTH’s legal representative did not request compensation.
