(Baonghean.vn) - African swine fever is spreading widely in Dien Chau district. Test results from samples taken on May 14th show that Dien Hong is the 10th locality in the district with pigs testing positive for the disease.
Accordingly, on May 13th, the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Tuat, in Ai Quoc hamlet, Dien Hong commune, had three pigs that fell ill with symptoms including constipation, a fever of 40 degrees Celsius, a reddish-pink complexion, and difficulty walking. Mr. Tuat reported the incident to the local authorities and veterinary agency, who collected samples for testing.

Test results from samples taken on May 14th showed that the pigs at Mr. Tuat's farm tested positive for African swine fever. The veterinary authorities have culled the herd according to proper procedures, including 2 sows and 2 market pigs.
Dien Hong is a strategically important area in Dien Chau district, with National Highway 1A running through it, resulting in high traffic volume. Furthermore, it is not far from Dien Van and Dien My communes, where African swine fever outbreaks have occurred, making the potential for spread from these areas very high.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Trung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Hong commune, said: Immediately after receiving information that the samples tested positive for African swine fever, the district veterinary agency directly instructed the locality to implement disease prevention and control measures. This afternoon, May 14th, the commune will hold a meeting to agree on disease control plans and simultaneously request the district veterinary station to provide chemicals and equipment for effective disease control.
Dien Hong commune is traversed by National Highway 1, making it difficult to set up checkpoints. Previously, Dien Hong commune had already established a checkpoint on the road leading from Dien Van commune, because Dien Van was the first commune in the district to experience an outbreak.
