Diego Costa joins Atletico Madrid for £53m

The home page of the reigning Premier League champions confirmed that the club has just reached an agreement to transfer Costa to the Madrid team.

Chelsea's announcement consisted of just two sentences, with the revelation that the deal would only be completed after Diego Costa agreed personal terms with Atletico, as well as passing a medical.

The Brazilian striker has repeatedly stated that Atletico is his dream destination once he leaves Chelsea. Costa is also ready to sue Chelsea or accept a pay cut just to return to the team that made him famous. Returning to Atletico, Costa will also work with Simeone, a coach who has a great influence on him. Therefore, the personal agreement between the 28-year-old striker and Wanda Metropolitano is not a problem.

But what Atletico fans are concerned about now is whether Diego Costa will pass the medical examination.

Costa was in Chelsea's 2017-18 Premier League squad, but was absent from the Champions League squad. However, he has yet to return to London to train with the Stamford Bridge team. Since the summer, Costa has been resting in his native Brazil. His fitness, therefore, is a big question mark.

Costa appears to have gained weight during his time in hiding in his native Brazil since last summer.

Costa's current contract with Chelsea runs until June 2019. And according to Sports Mail, Atletico must pay £53 million ($72 million) to convince the London club to transfer the Brazilian striker.

Costa joined Chelsea for £32 million ($43 million) in the summer of 2014, after shining, winning La Liga with Atletico, reaching the Champions League final. This "talented, flawed" striker scored 58 goals in 120 games for Chelsea. In the two seasons he won the Premier League with Chelsea, Costa scored 20 goals each.

But 2017 was a year to forget for Costa in blue. The conflict between him and the club began because of a lucrative offer from China. Tempted by the money, Costa turned to quarrel with Conte and the board. As a result, he was punished and removed from the trip to Leicester on January 13.

Costa played 129 matches, scored 58 goals, had 24 assists, won three Cups in three and a half years serving Chelsea.

The issue was temporarily resolved from the beginning of February 2017 until the end of last season, when both sides "gave in" for the common goal - winning the Premier League. But right after the season ended, Costa received a message from Conte himself, saying that he no longer wanted him to stay at Chelsea.

Atletico will have to wait until January 2018 to register Costa on their team roster, as their transfer ban lasts until the end of the year.
