Na Ngan school belongs to Nga My Primary School (Nga My commune, Tuong Duong district), only about 15 km from National Highway 48C. However, to get to this school, teachers have to travel by motorbike for more than 3 hours in dry weather conditions. On the way, we had to wade through streams more than 30 times to reach the school. In the 2019 school year, there were 54 Thai ethnic students studying at the primary school. Meanwhile, secondary and high school students were forced to go to the commune and district centers to study. During the rainy season, teachers who were "staying in the village" were forced to stay in the village for months because the water level of Ngan stream rose. Photo: Ho Phuong |

Hat Ta Ven village school belongs to Keng Du Primary School (Keng Du commune, Ky Son district). This is considered the "headland" of Nghe An province, more than 400 km from Vinh city. To get to the school, teachers have to travel by various means of transport such as cars, motorbikes and on foot for more than a day. This is the school of nearly 50 Khmu students. In particular, when standing at this school, we only need to look across the small river to see the mountains of Laos. Every morning, we can clearly hear the sound of roosters crowing from the other side of the mountain. Photo: Archive |

With rugged mountainous terrain, Bac Ly 1 Primary School has 2 campuses ranked among the most difficult schools in Nghe An today, namely Phia Kham 2 and Na Kho. In the 2019 school year, Na Kho Primary School has about 30 students in grades 1, 2, and 3. And Phia Kham 2 has nearly 40 students in grades 1, 2, and 3. Students in grades 4 and 5 must go to the main campus in Huoi Cang 1 village. To "sow letters" at these 2 campuses, teachers must leave 1 day in advance to be able to get to class on time. When the rainy season comes, teachers will also be isolated with the local people. Photo: Ho Phuong |

Ai Khe school belongs to Muong Ai Primary School (Muong Ai commune, Ky Son district). This is a school for Mong ethnic children, only about 1 hour by motorbike from the center of Muong Ai commune in dry weather conditions. When it rains, most activities are suspended because pedestrians have difficulty moving on the dirt road from the center of the commune to Ai Khe village. In the 2019 school year, the school had more than 20 students studying in grades 1, 2, and 3. Grades 4 and 5 were forced to go to the commune center to study because there were not enough students to organize classes. Photo: Thanh Dat |

Dong Tren and Dong Duoi hamlets belong to Tay Son Ethnic Minority Primary School (Tay Son commune, Ky Son district). Mong students in Dong Tren and Dong Duoi hamlets sleep with blankets all year round. This is considered the highest residential area in Southeast Asia with an altitude of more than 1,500m above sea level. Although the facilities have been invested in quite well, the dormitories for teachers are still very makeshift. To reach this school, you can only go in dry weather and it takes more than 2 hours to climb the mountain with extremely high ravines. In particular, when riding a motorbike to Dong Tren and Dong Duoi, no mistake, even the smallest one, is allowed. Photo: Archive |

Huoi May school belongs to Cam Muon 2 Primary School (Cam Muon commune, Que Phong district). This is considered the most difficult school in the mountainous district of Que Phong at present. For people in Que Phong district, when mentioning Huoi May school, many people feel "shudder" because of its hardships. In the 2019 school year, Huoi May school had 28 students with 2 combined classes, grades 1 and 3, grades 2 and 5. In 2019, this special school had no 4th graders. Because the road was too far and crossed many streams, the 2 teachers in charge of the class were forced to "embrace" additional subjects such as: technology, music, art... This is also a school that has not had a female teacher for many years. Currently, the roof panels of the school have begun to deteriorate. The teacher's dormitory is also very makeshift.
