The US Air Force's F-22 Raptor is the world's first fifth-generation fighter. The F-22 entered service in December 2005 and has since had several improved versions. The F-22 has now been discontinued. |
Since the 1940s, the military aviation industry has developed four generations of jet fighters, and the fifth generation is about to be introduced. Following the United States, Russia and China, other countries are also designing multi-role fighters with the latest technology.
The elements to become a 5th generation fighter include: stealth (anti-radar, anti-heat sensor), super speed (speed faster than sound without afterburner), flexible movement, weapons bay and automatic guidance system, integrated with a military system and allowing full spectrum attack.
