University floor scores 2025: Many HOT majors decline, less than 5 points/exam subject
The 2025 admission season witnessed significant adjustments in the floor scores at many universities, with many HOT majors announcing that the admission score was less than 5 points/subject.
Admission scores hit rock bottom: A series of schools announced record lows
Universities across the country are announcing their minimum scores for admission in 2025. This is the minimum score for candidates to be eligible to register their wishes, completely different from the official admission benchmark that will be announced by the Ministry of Education and Training after virtual filtering on August 16.
Notably, this year's floor score ranges from 12-24 points, which is considered a record low, even "rock bottom" compared to the 15/30 points of 2024.
University of Labor and Social Affairs announced that the minimum score for Economic Law is 18/30 points, and for the remaining majors is 14/30 points.
Hung Yen University of Technical Education accepts applications from 14 points/3 subjects of high school graduation exam.
The lowest admission score currently belongs to Hung Vuong University (HCMC) with 12 points/3 subjects.
Quang Trung University also has a minimum score for graduation exam of only 13-14 points/3 subjects.
Many universities announced a minimum score of 15 points, mainly non-public universities such as Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Saigon International, Hong Bang International, Hoa Sen, and Van Lang.
Even some prestigious public universities such as University of Science and Ho Chi Minh City National University also accept applications with scores of 16/3 subjects.
In particular, International University, Ho Chi Minh City National University accepts applications with scores from 15-24 points/combination of 3 high school graduation exam subjects.

Hot industry floor points "fall"
The trend of decreasing floor scores does not only stop at common majors but also spreads to majors considered "hot". The University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City announced that the floor scores range from 16 to 24 points.
Although the two majors of Semiconductor Technology and Microchip Design still maintain the same high level as in 2024 due to being included in the Government's 1017 program, many other majors of the school decreased from 0.5 to 6 points.
Notably, the Data Science industry has "dropped" from 24 points (in 2024) to 18 points.
Majors such as Artificial Intelligence, Computer and Information Technology, Computer Science (advanced program) and Information Technology (English-enhanced program) also decreased by 4 points, to 20 points.
Van Lang University also witnessed the minimum score for many popular majors decrease by 1 point, from 16 points (in 2024) to 15 points for Multimedia Communications, Graphic Design, Law, English Language, and Korean Language.
The Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, with a series of trendy majors such as Artificial Intelligence of Things, Telecommunications Electronics Engineering, and Automation Control, also has a common minimum score reduced by 3 points, from 22 points (in 2024) to 19 points/combination.
Candidates registering their wishes need to avoid the "floor score trap"
Experts say there are two main reasons for the simultaneous reduction in floor scores of schools.
Firstly, the Ministry of Education and Training's regulation that all educational institutions are not allowed to enroll students early (except for direct enrollment according to regulations) makes it impossible for schools to determine the actual number of candidates participating in the admission process. In previous years, early enrollment helped many schools recruit a large number of candidates, creating confidence to set higher floor scores. Therefore, this year, many schools accepted to set a "rock bottom" floor score to ensure they could recruit enough candidates.
Second, this year's score distribution decreased due to better differentiation of the exam. In addition, another objective reason is the risk of a lack of recruitment sources because this year the military schools returned to recruiting civilian students and top schools continued to increase their quotas.
However, experts also especially note that candidates need to be careful to avoid falling into the "floor score trap".
Master Nguyen Tran Ngoc Phuong, Director of the Marketing and Brand Development Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, emphasized the difference between the floor score and the benchmark score. The floor score is just the minimum score for registration, while the benchmark score is the admission score after the school considers in order from high to low.
Therefore, candidates should refer to the data.score spectrumand benchmark scores from previous years before deciding to register your wishes to increase your chances of admission.
