“I see yellow flowers on the green grass”, “You are my grandmother”, “The day of return”... are cinematographic works that created many impressions in 2015.

1. I see yellow flowers on green grass

Adapted from the novel of the same name by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh, the film “I see yellow flowers on the green grass” by director Victor Vu has created a “phenomenon” in the Vietnamese cinema industry in the past year. Not only was it successful in terms of quality, but the film’s revenue of 80 billion VND also attracted many producers.

It was not until October 2015 that the film was released to the public, but before that, “I see yellow flowers on the green grass” had already attracted and captivated audiences with its smooth, beautiful frames through the film’s trailer. And immediately after its release, all newspapers, forums, and social networks were flooded with images and articles about the film. “I see yellow flowers on the green grass” truly created a “fever” about cinema for the public.

Besides, the good acting of the three child actors (Thinh Vinh, Trong Khang, Thanh My) along with the sweet, soaring musical melodies are things that the audience cannot forget after watching "I see yellow flowers on green grass".

Not only that, at the 19th Vietnam Film Festival, “I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass” also won big in terms of awards when it “won” 4 awards: Golden Lotus Award for feature film, excellent cinematography, excellent director, and film loved by the audience.

This is also a film that marks the success of the cooperation between the Department of Cinema and private film studios in 2015.

2. The returnee

As a work of the People's Army Cinema released to the audience on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, the film "The Returner" by director Dang Thai Huyen has received many positive responses from experts as well as audiences.

Based on the short story “The Returning Woman to the Chau River” by writer Suong Nguyet Minh and scripted by Nguyen Thu Dung, the film “The Returning Woman” focuses on describing the fate of women before and after the war. With a small investment budget, the film was made carefully, responsibly and created effects beyond expectations.

The success of the film is also confirmed by the demanding audience. During the 3 months of screening with 12 shows in the North (at Kim Dong Cultural Center) and 22 shows in the South (CGV Vietnam), the number of viewers was packed in the theater. At many screenings, the audience had to wait in long lines in the theater to watch the film.

The film also won the best screenplay award and the jury's certificate of merit for the film at the 19th Vietnam Film Festival.

3. Flapping in mid-air

Although it was not released in Vietnam until January 2015, before that, the film “Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere” by director Nguyen Hoang Diep had already caught the attention of the Vietnamese cinema world with an international award: Best Film Award from the Federation of European and Mediterranean Film Critics (FEDEORA) at the Venice International Film Critics Week...

In addition, “Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere” also attracted attention when it delved into the themes of love, transgender, etc. This is a rather sensitive topic, but director Nguyen Hoang Diep handled it very skillfully so that the audience did not find it too crude or vulgar. In particular, the actors’ excellent performances also left a strong impression on the audience. Among them, Thanh Duy Idol attracted the most attention from the audience when he played the role of a transgender person with many ups and downs in life.

Along with that, "Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere" is also a successful example of independent film in Vietnam.

4. I am your grandmother

Remade from the Korean hit - Miss Granny (Miss Granny) and released in December 2015, the film by young director Phan Gia Nhat Linh titled "Em la ba noi cua anh" has created a "fresh breath" for the Vietnamese film market at the end of the year.

The film is a story about Mrs. Dai (played by Minh Duc), a 70-year-old woman who suddenly has the chance to relive her golden age of 20. God brought Mrs. Dai an unexpected gift when she was saddest and most disappointed. That is the magical youth. However, along with that gift comes a lot of troubles like "being young again is tiring" that the 70-year-old "lady" has to deal with. The biggest problem is probably when love comes unexpectedly and also when "her youthful dream is about to come true"...

With a curious story, both tragic and humorous, beautiful images and carefully invested sound, “You are my grandmother” has created a romantic comedy that touches the audience's emotions.

This also helped the film earn more than 41 billion VND in revenue after 10 days of release. In addition, many viewers after watching the film "Em la ba noi cua anh" shared that they were "fascinated" by the strange attraction of the film from the first minute to the last seconds, even though the film is more than two hours long.

At the 19th Vietnam Film Festival, although not officially competing, Em La Ba Noi Cua Anh won the audience award in the panorama category.

5. The boy of that year

With the participation of singer Son Tung M-TP - who is loved by millions of young people, the movie "That Boy" was quickly welcomed by audiences when it was released in late 2014 and early 2015.

Besides, being inspired by the life of the late singer - Wanbi Tuan Anh (following the last days of a young star with cancer) is also an emotional factor and scores points in the hearts of the audience.

With those two factors, "That Boy" earned 70 billion VND after being released in theaters and was also invited to attend several Film Festivals in Southeast Asia.

6. Win the lottery

"Winning the Lottery" is considered a "phenomenon" at cinemas during Tet 2015. The film is based on a true story about a lottery ticket seller who refused to take 6.6 billion VND, which caused a stir in public opinion at the end of December 2011.

The gentle, tender and humane content of “Trung So” has received enthusiastic support from audiences and experts as soon as it was released. This helped “Trung So” rank 2nd in revenue among the films released during Tet. This is a result far beyond the expectations of the production team, despite the film’s low production budget and being classified as a “small film” among the 8 films released during Tet 2015.

In addition, last October, the film was also selected to represent Vietnam in the Oscar "Foreign Language Film" preliminary round but was not on the shortlist.

7. Donation

Adapted from the work of the same name by writer Nguyen Van Tho, the film “Quyen” tells the story of a Hanoi girl named Quyen during the chaotic period when the Berlin Wall fell. On her journey to find a life in a foreign land, Quyen met and experienced unforgettable moments with men who loved her in different ways.

Although not outstanding or explosive, “Quyen” has brought to the public in Berlin, especially the Vietnamese community in Germany, a true look at the human condition here. “Quyen” is also the first Vietnamese film to have a grand premiere abroad.

In addition, the film is also a beautiful and remarkable mark of Nguyen Phan Quang Binh when the Vietnamese film scene is still struggling to find an audience, there are directors who have focused on seriously investing in art films, ignoring the genres of nonsense comedy or half-hearted horror, hitting fast and winning fast to recover capital and reproduce.

8. Love

Adapted from the Thai gay work - "The Love of Siam", the movie "Love" by director Viet Max brought to the audience a romantic love story of the female lovers Nhi and Tu (played by Chi Pu and Gil Le as the two main roles).

The film is not necessarily excellent but still receives the attention of the audience when a young director boldly chose a rather thorny topic (lesbianism) to make a film when not many people had success before.

9. 12 Zodiac Signs - Draw a path for love to run

Although it was only produced in 20 days and still had many "errors", the film about astrology and young love called "12 Constellations - Drawing the Path for Love to Run" by young director Vu Ngoc Phuong still created a buzz after its release.

The film is a “fictional” story but makes people love it and agree to get lost in that fictional world. With the participation of a cast of hot boys and hot girls, “12 Zodiacs - Draw a path for love to run” is still the focus of young people when it was released.

Along with “Love”, “12 Zodiacs - Drawing a path for love to run” are two Vietnamese films in 2015 that mark the “rise” of young directors with the style of “dare to think, dare to do”, living for passion and enthusiasm.

10. Gentle

After the success of "Winning the Lottery", Dustin Nguyen continues to surprise movie audiences with his new role in "Gentle". Inspired by the short story "Gentle Woman" by Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky published in 1876; director Le Van Kiet - whose name is associated with the success of films such as "Dust of Life" and "House in the Alley", collaborated with producer Tran Trong Dan to adapt it into a film called "Gentle".

The movie “Dịu Dặng” is considered a watchable movie but it is heavy on artistic elements so it is difficult to avoid the current indifference of the entertainment audience. However, whoever watches it will find it hard to forget.

The film revolves around Thien (played by Dustin Nguyen) – a pawn shop owner. This middle-aged man falls in love with Linh (played by Thanh Tu) – a young girl from a poor family, living with two aunts but being treated very badly by them./.
