On the afternoon of May 22, Cao Vo Ngoc Long was crowned champion at the 2nd Asian Youth Championship - 2017, in Thailand with a score of 2m10.

Ngoc Long's high jump event had the participation of many highly rated athletes such as Qihao Sun (China), Hussain Nasser Alshawakir (Saudi Arabia),... However, this athlete from Ho Chi Minh City still competed brilliantly to conquer the bars one by one.

After clearing the 2m05 bar in the first jump, Ngoc Long was sure to win the gold medal, because Qihao Sun, after three jumps, only scored 2m03.

Realizing his student's growing ability and excitement, Coach Nguyen Duy Bang registered suitable bar heights one by one. Thanks to that, Ngoc Long successfully conquered the 2m10 bar height to convincingly win the gold medal.

The 2.10m bar also broke the Vietnamese youth high jump record of 2.08m, set by Nguyen Thanh Nhan (Tien Giang) in 2013. In addition, this figure helped Long qualify for the World Youth Championship held in Kenya.

Ngoc Long's success is the first sweet fruit of Nguyen Duy Bang after nearly five years of honing the rough gems that he and Ho Chi Minh City Athletics are looking for.

Experience in competing in domestic and international arenas, along with what he has learned from international experts, are all systematically and scientifically passed on to his students by Duy Bang. Thanks to that, his "fighting cocks", including Ngoc Long, are progressing very quickly, achieving remarkable results, and promising a bright future for Vietnamese high jump.

Before the Asian youth gold medal, Ngoc Long also won a gold medal at the 2017 Southeast Asian Athletics Championship for all ages in the Philippines when he conquered the 2m bar in rainy conditions.

After just over two months in the continental arena, the 17-year-old athlete from Ho Chi Minh City has made remarkable progress, achieving a record of 2m10 in Thailand this time. What Ngoc Long is showing makes coach Duy Bang expect him to surpass his own record (2m25) and conquer the international arena.

At the tournament in Thailand, Vietnamese athletics also won two more silver medals from Nguyen Lan Anh in the women's high jump with a score of 1m69 and Doan Thu Hang in the women's 3000m with a score of 10 minutes 02 seconds 18. This afternoon (May 23), the Vietnamese team also participated in the women's 400 hurdles and the men's and women's 2000 hurdles.
