(Baonghean.vn)- Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on January 28 that the Western public has been subjected to anti-Russian rhetoric for decades and needs time to change this attitude.

In an interview with Rossiya 1 TV, Mr Peskov said that exaggerated anti-Russian sentiments would remain in the West for many years until they finally disappeared. Mr Peskov argued that some countries, including Germany and the Baltic states, were using “Russophobia” as a means to divert public attention from domestic problems.

"The economic problems of those countries are obvious. The competitiveness of Germany's famous industry is declining. The cost of living is rising. Economic and social pressure is increasing," the Kremlin representative stressed, adding that this is why some European leaders like to make Russia a "bogeyman" to scare them.

Mr Peskov said that “this anti-Russian sentiment will not work” and “may last for several decades” before the situation changes. “Right now, anti-Russian sentiment is at its peak. It will subside… One day this will happen, and common sense will gradually prevail,” Mr Peskov asserted.
Many Western countries have imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia in retaliation for Moscow's military campaign in Ukraine launched in February 2022. Russia has since been banned from many cultural and sporting events.
Last month, the Russian State Duma (lower house) prepared a bill criminalizing discrimination against Russian citizens living abroad, as well as “public incitement to extremism by officials and international organizations”./.
