- Why did you decide to move to the South while you were famous for the movie "Living with Mother-in-law"?
- Before coming to Ho Chi Minh City, I had been an actor in Hanoi for 12 years, playing almost all kinds of roles. If I continued to stay and be a TV actor for the rest of my life, I would still live like that, there are many movies to act in but creating a breakthrough would probably be difficult. Moreover, acting in TV dramas in the North for 6 months or 1 year is normal, I have no time for myself.
It's not that I'm bored with Northern movies, but I need a new life. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if I stepped onto the big screen. Everyone has a dream. I remember a book that said: "If life tells you to go somewhere, just go. Surely that place has a gift for you." I believed in that, so I decided to move to the South in 2018.
- Over the past two and a half years, what have you prepared to join the Southern showbiz?
- After more than 2 years moving to the South, I am just about to have my first role in a movie."The Old Lady V: Royal Lives"by 2 directors Bao Nhan - Nam Cito during Tet movie season. By March, I will have the movie "Guardian Angel"directed by Victor Vu in theaters.
Many people may feel that period of time is too long, but not for me. It was a time for me to learn and renew myself. Everyone needs a quiet time in life, especially when moving from one region to another. Ho Chi Minh City is a good environment for me to practice, learn and improve myself. At first, I learned how to live in the South. Then I met and talked with many people in the profession, learned what kind of actors directors like. I trained myself to adapt to the requirements of each director.
As soon as I moved from Hanoi, I opened an actor training company with actor Hieu Nguyen. Currently, I have opened my own company to produce films, organize events and many other artistic activities. However, due to the Covid-19 epidemic, I cannot officially announce the company yet. I plan to produce a film myself this year. In addition, I also want to study directing.

Anh Dung spent the first two years in the South reading books, improving his acting and looking for opportunities. |
- Instead of your products, recently you have been mentioned by rumors of your relationship with actress - producer Truong Ngoc Anh. You are even called "Truong Ngoc Anh's rumored younger lover" more than your name. How do you feel?
- Maybe because I don't have any projects and I'm a new face in the Southern showbiz, so people call me that. When I first came to Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Anh shared many things with me and always encouraged me. I appreciate this.
- How does this rumor affect your personal life and career?
- This definitely has both positive and negative effects on me. But I personally like to live positively. Instead of being upset or complaining, I go to work, exercise. Then I will give back to those who gossip about me with a project, an action.
I could have gone to the press to correct it, but what would be the point? The feedback is not good for me. People say patience is the key to success. My goal and passion is filmmaking. I have many plans for my own company. If I keep getting upset about the news, I will put pressure on myself and not be alert enough to work. I rarely use social media. I don’t see anything good in it. I just see it as a tool to stay in touch with people, so I am not affected much by the rumors.
My parents also read the rumors. But I just confirm that I did nothing wrong, and did not affect anyone. As the people who gave birth to me, my parents understand me very well. Living independently, I think that as long as I do not bring negative energy to the family, my family will trust my choices.

Mr. Dung celebrated Truong Ngoc Anh's birthday in mid-November last year. |
- When you first moved to the South, what difficulties did you encounter?
- Of course there are difficulties, but I don't like to share them in detail, because even if I did, people wouldn't be able to help me. I don't want others to feel like I'm begging for their sympathy. If so, I'd feel too small.
The most tragic thing about me when I first moved to the South was my voice and the way I expressed my emotions. In the North, I was used to speaking a bit loudly. I graduated from drama school, so my voice was always loud and strong. In the South, I spoke normally but many people asked, "Why are you yelling at me?" When I first started acting in films here, I met people who I didn't understand what they said, and I probably didn't understand what they said either. Sometimes, some members of the crew thought I was upset with them, so they were afraid of me and didn't dare to communicate with me. I had to control myself a lot.
- As soon as you moved to the South, you established two private companies and intended to become a producer and director. Why did you have such big and hasty ambitions?
- When I went to the South, the thing that kept me from returning to the North was that I had to have a job. Therefore, I set up my own company. If I said I would bring Vietnamese films to the international market and make other producers look at me with admiration because they could not do what I did, that would be ambition. As for me, it was just to make my dream come true. Those are things I can do step by step and only when I can do them will I dare to do them. Money is very important, but my biggest ambition is to conquer myself and many new things.
-What are your plans for the future?
- After Tet, I will act in an action movie. Near the end of the year, I will carry out a film project that I produce.
Mr. Dung was born in 1990 in Thai Nguyen.
