American reality TV star shoots his family and then commits suicide

Jacob Stockdale (25 years old) - who participated in "Wife Swap" - used a gun to shoot his mother and younger brother to death, then shot himself in the head at his own home.

According to People, last weekend the police received a distress call at a house in Beach City, Ohio, USA. When they approached, they heard gunshots. When they pushed the door open, the police discovered Jacob Stockdale lying on the floor, still alive but bleeding from his head. Inside the house, Kathryn Stockdale (54 years old) was dead, and James Stockdale (21 years old) was in critical condition.

Jacob Stockdale is believed to have shot his mother and younger brother.

James Stockdale was taken to a Cleveland hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities believe Jacob Stockdale shot his mother and brother before taking his own life. Police have not yet determined a motive for his actions.

Jacob, James and their father, Timothy Stockdale, are members of a bluegrass band called the Stockdale Family Band. In 2008, the Stockdales appeared on the ABC reality show Wife Swap.

Timothy Stockdale was not home when the shooting occurred. He wrote a statement to People: "Kathy was my beloved wife of 32 years and a wonderful mother. She loved being a mother and grandmother. Our family appreciates the outpouring of love, prayers and support."
