The surprising thing about the top student in History.
(Baonghean.vn) - Among the top scorers in the 2019 Provincial Excellent Student Selection Exam, Lai Thi Luyen – the top scorer in History – is a rather special figure.
The messages...
Luyen is a quiet and shy girl. Therefore, from grades 1 to 9, with her average academic performance, she wasn't a particularly outstanding student. Her greatest achievement after 9 years of high school was probably her 9.25 score in Literature on the entrance exam for grade 10. However, ranking second in the entire school, this result didn't give her much impetus when she started attending Dien Chau 3 High School. She herself admitted that the 9.25 score might have been due to luck or hard work, but she didn't genuinely like or have any special connection with Literature at school.
But with History, it was different. Luyen started to enjoy studying History in the 7th grade. The innocent girl at that time hadn't fully defined why she liked History. Nevertheless, from the lessons in class, Luyen loved to explore and read books, even though at that time she only had one book, "Ho Chi Minh Thought," which her cousin lent her...
In 9th grade, Luyen was also selected by the district to participate in the provincial-level gifted student competition. However, her first attempt was inevitably unsuccessful because at that time, "I hadn't really tried hard enough; I was only focused on preparing for the high school entrance exam."
Luyen's dedication only truly blossomed when she was in 10th grade and was selected to participate in the school's gifted student competition, where she won first prize. Recalling that competition, Ms. Bui Thi Hien, the school's history teacher, shared: "When I graded Luyen's exam, I was truly surprised because she had almost completely and accurately fulfilled all the requirements of the question. It was also the exam I gave the highest score to."
After the school's gifted student selection exam, teacher Bui Thi Hien thought of Luyen, thinking, "This is a potential talent for the 11th grade." However, by chance, in the 11th grade, teacher Bui Thi Hien was reassigned to teach the 11th grade again. Meeting her former student again, she was very happy. But being a teacher with a rather "unconventional" teaching style, she didn't immediately call Luyen into the school's team, instead giving Luyen and her classmates a chance to choose, "as long as they are passionate and truly love history."
