“Money bouquets” are loved by many people, but using money to make flowers carries many risks leading to illegal acts.

On the occasion of Valentine's Day (February 14), International Women's Day (March 8) or October 20, some individuals and flower shops have come up with the idea of ​​using money to make flowers to serve customers. New bills are taped to sticks and rolled up to form beautiful "money bouquets".

Money flowers are popular with many people because of their value. However, using money to make flowers is fraught with many risks leading to illegal acts. Lieutenant Colonel Huynh Si Hien, Deputy Head of the Economic Security Department of Dong Thap Provincial Police, said: "In the process of making flowers, if sharp objects and highly adhesive substances such as iron glue are used, it will lead to tearing, deformation and affect the circulation of money."

"Money bouquets" are popularly displayed on Valentine's Day, February 14 this year.

Recently, the police force has coordinated to propagate and remind a number of business households to comply with the law on protecting Vietnamese currency. In particular, special attention should be paid to acts of damaging or tearing money, making it worthless for circulation or difficult to check and count.

Mr. Tran Huu Loc, who has many years of experience making money flowers in Cao Lanh City, said: "In the process of making money flowers, customers want them to stick better and last longer, so I have to use good glue, but the inconvenience later is that when removing them, the money is easily torn."

According to Decision No. 130/2003 of the Prime Minister on the protection of Vietnamese currency, there are 4 prohibited acts, including the act of destroying Vietnamese currency in any form.

Lieutenant Colonel Huynh Si Hien also added: “Clause 3, Article 31, Decree 88/2019 amended in 2021 of the Prime Minister regulating administrative sanctions in the field of finance and banking stipulates a fine of 10 to 15 million VND for acts of destroying or vandalizing Vietnamese currency and may result in confiscation of evidence and means of transport according to regulations. In case of serious consequences, criminal liability may be prosecuted.”
