(Baonghean.vn) - With just over two weeks left until the Mid-Autumn Festival, many businesses and stores have been bustling with displays of mooncakes and baked goods, but overall the mooncake market is still quite quiet...

In Vinh city, there are currently dozens of temporary stalls and booths selling moon cakes of major brands such as Kinh Do, Huu Nghi, etc. Although they opened for sale about a month ago, the purchasing power of moon cakes is still very slow.

The moon cake stall opened more than a month ago, but at this time, purchasing power is quite sluggish.

Mr. Hoa, a salesman at Huu Nghi bakery at the 5-way intersection in Vinh City, said: Although our stall has been open for more than a month, the mooncakes and baked cakes are still selling very slowly. The most we can sell is only 10 cakes a day; for the past two days, we have only sold 2-3 cakes a day; purchasing power is slower than last year.

According to research at moon cake stalls in the city, at this time, people mainly choose to buy traditional moon cakes; the average price is from 40 - 50 thousand/piece. As for the high-end cakes, which are often given as gifts, there is still no "movement".

Nhiều chủ quầy hàng bán bánh trung thu cho biết, năm nay, sức mua giảm so với cùng kỳ năm trước.
Many moon cake stall owners said that this year, purchasing power has decreased compared to the same period last year.

A vendor at Kinh Do bakery (Hong Bang Street, Vinh City) said: "Every day we sell about 40 baked and soft cakes of all kinds, mainly traditional moon cakes. High-end cakes are only occasionally bought. Hopefully, as the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, the number of customers will increase and the products will sell better."

At some branded cake production facilities in the city, the situation is similar. According to the manager of Bao Ngoc bakery (Nguyen Thai Ngoc street, Vinh city), the number of customers asking to buy moon cakes is not much, each day they sell more than 10 cakes of all kinds; the price has increased compared to previous years, the increase is about 10 - 20 thousand/cake.

The moon cake market in the districts is also quite quiet. At a moon cake selling point in Dien Chau town, about 15 cakes are sold each day. The most consumed cakes are still sticky rice cakes and green bean and egg cakes of major brands, with prices ranging from 45,000 VND to 60,000 VND.

Ms. Cao Thi Hai Hong - Deputy Sales Manager of Phu Dien Supermarket said: Currently, the amount of cakes sold is only scattered, usually from the 7th of the 8th lunar month, the number of customers increases significantly. Only close to the Mid-Autumn Festival do we import high-end cakes, over 1 million VND; because at that time, customers' demand for buying cakes as gifts increases sharply.

In mountainous districts, due to slow purchasing power, many grocery store owners only import a lot of goods near the Mid-Autumn Festival.

In the mountainous district of Tuong Duong, moon cakes are only sold in a few grocery stores. Ms. Hoang Quynh Lin, owner of a confectionery store in Hoa Binh town, said: “Because purchasing power is still slow and we are afraid that the cakes will expire, we only import a lot of goods close to the Mid-Autumn Festival. The demand in the mountainous market is mainly for traditional popular cakes, priced at about 50,000 VND/piece.”

Moreover, consumers increasingly tend to choose to buy mooncakes online, so this year's mooncake stalls are much less crowded. Shop owners are waiting and hoping that during the Mid-Autumn Festival, the market will be more bustling...
