Djokovic ended 2014 as world number 1.
Before his final group stage match at the ATP World Tour Finals against Tomas Berdych, Djokovic only needed to win one set to secure a place in the semi-finals as the winner of Group A. However, the Serbian player wanted more than that, as a decisive victory would guarantee him the world number one ranking on the ATP charts after the end of 2014.

Defeating Berdych quickly with scores of 6-2, 6-2, Djokovic achieved everything he had set out to do before the match. With this victory, Nole officially ended 2014 as world number 1, and also secured first place in Group A of the ATP World Tour Finals, setting up a semi-final clash with Nishikori.
In the other match, Marin Cilic, in a final effort to prove himself, put on a relatively impressive performance against Stan Wawrinka. However, that wasn't enough for the Croatian player to win, and he had to accept defeat 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, thus conceding his place in the semi-finals to his Swiss opponent.
By securing a place in the semi-finals, Wawrinka will have the opportunity to face his compatriot and close friend Roger Federer in a match for a spot in this year's ATP World Tour Finals final.
